Marseille vs Lille – News and Probable Lineups

Marseille aims to keep their perfect Ligue 1 streak intact as they take on Lille at Stade Velodrome this Sunday.

As matchday 27 approaches, OM is positioned third in the standings after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Auxerre last week, placing them two spots ahead of Lille, who won against Rennes 2-1.

Match overview

Although they had to wait until the latter stages last Friday, Marseille’s persistence paid off as they achieved their third consecutive victory in this competition.

This Sunday, the team could at least hold onto their third position, currently being two points clear of Lyon for a place in next season’s Champions League group stage.

During the 2025-26 season, they have achieved seven clean sheets across all competitions at the Velodrome but have managed only one in the league this year.

A victory this weekend would match their total home wins from the entire 2024-25 Ligue 1 season (10).

Head coach Habib Beye might lead them to three consecutive shutouts in this tournament for the first time since August to September 2022.

Les Phoceens maintain a flawless home record in Ligue 1 this season against teams currently ranked in the top five, having won two of those three fixtures by just one goal.

Meanwhile, in northern France, Lille have managed to stay in contention for a European spot despite a challenging start to 2026.

Since dropping their first four top-flight matches this year, Bruno Genesio’s team has not gone without a point in this competition.

A triumph on Sunday would mark their third consecutive away victory in league play, equaling their best run of away wins this season.

Defensively, they have shown resilience on the road recently, conceding one goal or less in their last four Ligue 1 matches.

Currently, five points divide them from OM as they head into this fixture, trailing Lyon by just three points for fourth place.

Les Dogues are unbeaten in their last seven encounters against Marseille across all competitions, but they haven’t secured a win at the Velodrome since 2019 (2-1).

Team News

Nayef Aguerd is doubtful for Marseille on Sunday due to a groin issue, along with Leonardo Balerdi and Bilal Nadir, who are both nursing minor injuries.

Amine Gouiri scored 11 minutes before full-time against Auxerre, now boasting seven goal contributions in his last four league appearances at the Velodrome.

On the Lille side, Marc-Aurele Caillard (elbow), Hamza Igamane (cruciate ligament), Ethan Mbappe (thigh), Benjamin Andre (knock), Gaetan Perrin (knock), Osame Sahraoui (groin), and Ousmane Toure (cruciate ligament) are all on the injury list.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo found the net for them last Sunday, with Hakon Haraldsson scoring the decisive goal shortly after the half-time break.

Marseille probable starting XI:

Rolls; Weah, Pavard, Egan-Riley, Medina; Hojbjerg, Kondogbia; Greenwood, Nwaneri, Paixao; Gouiri

Lille probable starting XI:

Author; Meunier, Ngoy, Mandi, Verdonk; Mukau, Bentaleb; Correia, Bouaddi, Haraldsson; Fernandez-Pardo

In the last six competitive encounters between these clubs at the Velodrome, five ended in a draw, and a tightly contested 90 minutes is anticipated as both teams aim to avoid defeat, considering the close nature of the race for European qualification.
