Go Ahead Eagles vs Telstar – News and Probable Lineups

For the second time in just three days, Go Ahead Eagles and Telstar will face off once again at De Adelaarshorst on Sunday during the 22nd round of the 2025-26 Eredivisie season.

Telstar claimed victory in their previous KNVB Beker encounter on Thursday, adding to their 4-2 win over Go Ahead Eagles during their league matchup in September, making it two wins for them this season.

Match overview

After suffering a 2-1 loss in their last match, Go Ahead Eagles were eliminated from the Dutch Cup in the quarter-finals by Telstar, furthering a troubling period for the Deventer-based team.

Melvin Boel’s squad has not secured a victory in 90 minutes since November 9, with their only two wins out of the last 15 matches—against Roda and Heracles—coming through penalties.

Having finished in the top half of the table twice in a row and winning their first trophy in 66 years last season, Go Ahead Eagles are currently experiencing a disappointing domestic and European campaign, having already been knocked out of the Europa League and placed 14th in the Eredivisie standings.

They are only three points above the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw against Telstar in their latest league match, and the pride of the IJssel Kowet will need to quickly find stability to avoid being pulled into a relegation scrap.

Although only four teams have let in fewer goals at home than Go Ahead Eagles’ current tally of 12, this has not translated into a strong performance, as the hosts have managed only three wins from nine home matches.

Thursday’s success against Go Ahead saw Telstar advance to the KNVB Beker semi-finals for the first time in 34 years; however, with the club at the bottom of the Eredivisie, they have significant challenges ahead in the concluding months of the 2025-26 season.

Anthony Correia’s team remains without a league win in four matches this year, earning only one point from a possible 12, while they sit two points adrift of safety with 13 fixtures left to play.

De Witte Leeuwen’s recent unbeaten streak of seven away matches was snapped by PEC Zwolle, and they will aim to avoid back-to-back away losses for the first time since October this weekend.

Two out of Telstar’s three league victories this season have been in matches where they maintained a clean sheet, but with no shutouts in their last six games, the visitors will need to elevate their attacking play to secure crucial points.

With challenging fixtures against Twente and Feyenoord approaching, Telstar must navigate a crucial February that wraps up with an important home clash against relegation rivals NAC Breda.

Team News

The Dutch pair Robbin Weijenberg and Pim Saathof are both sidelined due to knee injuries, with Saathof still yet to make his first appearance of the season.

Gerrit Nauber is out for Go Ahead Eagles due to a broken leg, while Alfons Sampsted—who scored against Telstar on Thursday—will be suspended after his red card against Volendam.

January signing Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson remains unavailable for his debut, having been injured since late November.

Tyrone Owusu is expected to miss his fifth consecutive match for Telstar, and Ronald Koeman Jr, Devon Koswal, and Patrick Brouwer are also likely to be absent.

With four goals and as many assists in all competitions so far, Jeff Hardeveld has been a significant attacking threat from the left wing-back position, making him one to watch in this fixture.

Go Ahead Eagles probable starting XI:

De Busser; Adelgaard, Van Zwam, Kramer, James; Linthorst, Meulensteen; Slory, Breum, Suray; Edvardsen

Telstar probable starting XI:

Traveler; Bakker, Offerhaus, Nwankwo; Hardeveld, Hatenboer, Rosseen, Noslin; Hetli, Van de Kamp, Zonneveld

Telstar carries a psychological advantage heading into their third encounter of the season against Go Ahead Eagles, who are eager to get a win over their opponents.

Though it’s expected to be a close contest, we predict the home side will come out on top, further deepening Telstar’s relegation worries.
