Go Ahead Eagles vs PSV – News and Probable Lineups
On Sunday, Go Ahead Eagles will host their final home match of the 2025-26 Eredivisie season as they take on the newly crowned Dutch champions, PSV Eindhoven, at De Adelaarshorst.
While the chances of securing a spot in the European play-offs are still mathematically possible, the home side is also focused on concluding the season strongly in their last two fixtures.
Match overview
Head coach Melvin Boel recognizes the challenge that lies ahead for his team in Deventer, calling PSV significantly the strongest team in the Netherlands prior to Sunday’s match at De Adelaarshorst.
Go Ahead Eagles are set to fight to keep their slim hopes of chasing a European playoff spot alive with just a few matches left in the 2025-26 Eredivisie season, as they compete in a closely fought mid-table race.
Boel’s squad comes into this fixture with a mixed yet fairly solid record, having secured two victories, three draws, and one defeat from their previous six league matches, also keeping four clean sheets during that time.
Although the Pride of the IJssel Kowet have faced challenges with consistency on the road this season, they have remained one of the more formidable attacking teams in the Eredivisie when they play confidently.
Only PSV Eindhoven, NEC, Feyenoord, and AZ Alkmaar have netted more home goals than Go Ahead Eagles this season, and their enhanced defensive performance at De Adelaarshorst—evidenced by three clean sheets in their last four home games—provides hope as they strive for their first league win over PSV since 2014.
However, recent draws against Groningen, AZ Alkmaar, and Sparta Rotterdam highlight their ongoing struggles to convert competitive displays into victories.
For several weeks now, the only real question surrounding PSV’s Eredivisie season has been when they would clinch the championship, and last weekend they secured the title without playing, making them only the fourth team in Eredivisie history to achieve this milestone, following PSV in 1987-88, Ajax in 1997-98, and AZ Alkmaar in 2008/09.
This victory marked a third consecutive league title for head coach Peter Bosz, and a total of 27 Dutch championships for PSV, with this particular win notable for its early achievement.
The date April 5 now stands as the earliest any Eredivisie title has ever been won, breaking the previous record set by PSV when they clinched the title on April 8 during the 1977-78 season.
Despite having already lifted the trophy, PSV has shown no signs of slowing down in the final weeks of the season, with the club still in contention to achieve the largest title-winning margin in Eredivisie history—currently standing at 17 points, which is precisely the gap they hold over second-placed Feyenoord.
Bosz’s third consecutive championship also puts him alongside Kees Rijvers and Phillip Cocu with three league titles with PSV, with only Guus Hiddink above him with six. Hiddink remains the only PSV manager to have won three Eredivisie titles in a row between 1987 and 1989.
Earlier this season, Bosz signed a contract extension that could position him to be only the second coach in Eredivisie history to claim four straight league titles, a feat currently held by Frank de Boer, who led Ajax to four consecutive championships from 2010-11 to 2013-14.
Team News
Boel has confirmed that Pim Saathof has returned to full team training this week for the first time in a long period, although Oskar Sivertsen will be absent for Sunday’s match due to a red card received against Sparta Rotterdam.
Go Ahead Eagles will also continue to be without Gerrit Nauber, who is still dealing with a leg injury, while Robbin Weijenberg is out due to an ACL issue.
For PSV, Ivan Perisic is back in contention after serving a suspension during last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Ajax, but Alassane Plea, Jerdy Schouten, Sergino Dest, Anass Salah-Eddine, and Ruben van Bommel are still sidelined with injuries.
Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari is also ruled out, meaning that additional attacking responsibilities may once again rest on Paul Wanner and Guus Til, who are expected to support the striker.
Go Ahead Eagles probable starting XI:
The Buses; Sampsted, Adelgaard, Kramer, Dirksen; Meulensteen, Breum; Tengstedt, Edvardsen, Suray; Sigurdarson
PSV Eindhoven probable starting XI:
Kovar; Sildillia, Flamingo, Gasiorowski, Junior; Veerman, Wanner; Bajraktarevic, Til, Perisic; Pepi
Go Ahead Eagles have proven increasingly tough to beat at De Adelaarshorst, with Melvin Boel’s squad remaining unbeaten in their last three home games and averaging over three goals per match during that span.
In contrast, PSV has had the upper hand in recent encounters, winning 12 of the last 14 matches between the two teams. Meanwhile, Go Ahead Eagles have allowed more shots than any other team in the Eredivisie this season, a concerning vulnerability against a side as adept in possession as the champions; nonetheless, the hosts seem capable of creating challenges in transition and down the flanks, suggesting that this could be a more competitive match than the league standings indicate.
