Rapid Vienna vs Santa Coloma – News and Probable Lineups

Rapid Vienna xSanta Coloma - prediction, team news, lineups

Rapid Vienna will be looking to secure their place in the third qualifying round of the Conference League as they take on FC Santa Coloma on Wednesday.

In the first leg of last week’s second qualifying round, Rapid emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline, making them the strong favorites to advance in the tournament.

Match overview

The initial leg of the second qualifying round was actually scoreless at halftime, but the second half saw four goals, with Rapid netting three, allowing them to go into the second leg with a solid advantage to maintain.

The Green-Whites have been crowned Austrian champions 32 times, with their best performance in European contests being a quarter-final finish in the 2024-25 Conference League.

Last season, Rapid finished fifth in the Austrian Bundesliga and haven’t lifted the title since the 2007-08 campaign.

Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team will commence their new league campaign against Altach on Sunday evening, having achieved a 3-0 win over Wienerberger in the OFB Cup last Sunday.

They aim to secure three consecutive wins at the start of their new season to progress to the third qualification round of the Conference League.

On the other hand, Santa Coloma finds themselves in a challenging position for Wednesday’s second leg, as the Andorran team must perform exceptionally if they want to progress.

Dove has been crowned Andorran champions on 13 occasions, though they have not claimed the title since the 2018-19 season, finishing fourth in the 2025-26 league.

The Andorran outfit has considerable experience in European competitions, although all of their matches have taken place in qualifying rounds, where they have been unsuccessful in making it into the main tournaments.

Santa Coloma reached the 2026-27 Conference League at the first qualification round, overcoming Penybont with a 4-0 aggregate score to progress to the second round.

Victor Vazquez’s side is now hoping for one of their largest achievements in history by overcoming Rapid and securing a spot in the third qualification round.

Team News

Rapid will have to cope without Dominic Vincze, Jean Marcelin, Martin Ndzie, Lorenz Szladits, Claudy Mbuyi, Andrija Radulovic, and Daniel Nunoo due to injuries.

Tonni Adamsen has started the season strongly, having scored twice in his two appearances, and the 31-year-old is expected to be a key player for the home side in this matchup.

A spot in the final third of the field is also anticipated for Ercan Kara.

For Santa Coloma, David Rodriguez will miss out due to injury, but apart from that, the visitors are in good shape for their encounter with Rapid Vienna.

It’s likely that head coach Vazquez will field an unchanged XI, with Guillaume Lopez being part of the attack.

Inigo Barrenetxea will also be a prominent figure in the midfield.

Rapid Vienna probable starting XI:

Heddle; Bolla, Cvetkovic, Raux-Yao, Auer; Amane, Seidl; Iron, Adamsen, Wurmbrand; Kara

FC Santa Coloma probable starting XI:

Alcaraz; Rasines, Padilla, Guti, Andrade; M Lopez; Munoz, Barrenetxea, Arjona, Gomez; G Lopez

Given Rapid’s advantage from the first leg, it’s hard to envision Santa Coloma creating significant challenges.
