Club Tijuana is looking to maintain their position among the Liga MX’s top eight as they prepare to take on Pachuca at Estadio Hidalgo this Monday.
The visitors come into this fixture sitting eighth with 13 points from seven matches, while Pachuca holds the tenth spot with 11 points accrued over eight matchdays.
Match overview
Pachuca had a rough start to their league campaign, collecting only three points in their first four outings; however, they have since managed to earn eight points from the last 12 available.
Their latest result was a 3-0 victory over Atlante on September 12, with all three goals scored before the 38th minute.
Head coach Benjamin Mora will not only be pleased that this win marked his team’s second consecutive one but also because they have kept two clean sheets in the process.
Despite their improved performance generally, Tuzos have struggled at home, having lost two and drawn one of their three league fixtures at Estadio Hidalgo.
In those three games on their own turf, Pachuca conceded six goals while managing to score four.
Club Tijuana is currently within the playoff zone of Liga MX and, despite being six points behind leaders Toluca, they have the benefit of a game in hand.
Los Xolos were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat against Queretaro FC on September 12, and have only managed one clean sheet in their last seven matches.
This defeat also marked the second loss in three matches for Sebastián Abreu’s side, who previously enjoyed five victories in their last eight games and remained unbeaten during that stretch.
Recent seasons have seen Tijuana perform well against Pachuca, and a win on Monday would secure their third straight victory over them.
Club Tijuana will be aiming to secure their first away win in five matches, having drawn three and lost one of their last four away fixtures.
Team News
Pachuca is expected to stick with the same starting XI that secured victory last time out, featuring Eduardo Bauermann and Sergio Barreto in central defence.
In midfield, the likely pair for the double pivot will be Sergio Rodriguez and Christian Rivera.
Salomon Rondon, who netted against Atlante, is anticipated to lead the line once more.
For the visitors, Mourad El Ghezouani may be given the nod to start as the central striker, supported by wingers Adonis Preciado and Francisco Gonzalez.
Ivan Tona is likely to take up a position at the heart of midfield, while the defence could be marshaled by Jackson Porozo and Jesus Gomez.
Pachuca probable starting XI:
Dark; Sanchez, Bauermann, Barreto, Venegas; Rodriguez, Rivera; Kenedy, Bautista, Idrissi; Rondon
Club Tijuana probable starting XI:
Rodriguez; Arciga, Porozo, Gomez, Vega; Padilla, Tona, Mora; Gonzalez, El Ghezouani, Preciado
The visitors’ current form raises doubts about their ability to secure a win, particularly as they have faced challenges defensively for a considerable period.
Pachuca, on the other hand, has shown improvement largely due to their solid defending, and should feel optimistic about their chances of denying Club Tijuana on Monday.
