Galatasaray vs Antalyaspor – News and Probable Lineups

Galatasaray is set to host Antalyaspor at RAMS Park on Saturday evening, with a win guaranteeing them a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title.

The Lions’ celebrations were put on hold after a disappointing loss to Samsunspor last weekend, while their opponents come to Istanbul facing a relegation battle, just a point above the drop zone as the penultimate round of fixtures approaches.

Match overview

Galatasaray’s 3-0 triumph against rivals Fenerbahce on matchday 31 gave them a seven-point lead at the top, and they needed only a win against Samsun last weekend to clinch their 26th league title.

Regrettably, their title celebrations were delayed following a stunning 4-1 defeat away at Samsunspor, while Fenerbahce secured a victory over Istanbul Basaksehir, tightening the title race to four points with two matches remaining.

The day began positively for the Lions as Yunus Akgun put them ahead in the ninth minute, but they quickly lost momentum, conceding twice before the hour and experiencing a red card for goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc in the 63rd minute, leading to two additional goals against them.

In spite of this setback, Okan Buruk’s squad is still heavily favored to secure the title, with their final two fixtures against Kasimpasa and Antalyaspor, making Saturday’s match an opportunity to seal their championship.

Historically, the hosts have dominated this matchup, remaining unbeaten in their last 19 encounters with Antalyaspor and winning the last seven, including a commanding 4-1 victory in the earlier meeting this season.

Meanwhile, Antalyaspor arrives under significant pressure, as Sami Ugurlu’s squad is precariously positioned just above the relegation zone after a troubling stretch in which they’ve managed only one win from their last 10 league outings (D3, L6).

Their latest match saw them finish in a goalless stalemate against fellow strugglers Alanyaspor in the Mediterranean derby, which at least brought an end to a three-match losing streak, but did little to alleviate relegation concerns.

The situation looks grim for the Scorpions, particularly as Genclerbiligi and Kayserispor – the two teams beneath them – face easier opponents this weekend, which could see Antalyaspor fall into the bottom three by the end of the round.

The prospects worsen when considering their away form, with Antalyaspor losing six of their last eight league matches on the road, making their trip to a packed RAMS Park for a potential title-clenching encounter one of their toughest assignments this season.

Team News

Galatasaray may once again have to cope without Yaser Asprilla, who has been sidelined for the last three matches, while Metehan Baltaci continues to serve his suspension.

On a positive note for the Lions, first-choice goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is anticipated to make a return following backup Guvenc’s red card during the defeat to Samsunspor.

Victor Osimhen is likely to spearhead the attack once more, with the forward line expected to include Yunus Akgun, Leroy Sane, and Baris Alper Yilmaz alongside the Nigerian striker.

Antalyaspor has no new suspension worries, but there are doubts surrounding a few players, including Erdogan Yesilyurt and Ramzi Safuri.

Ugurlu is presumed to stick with the unit that displayed defensive resilience against Alanyaspor, with Sander van de Streek poised to remain the primary attacking threat for the visitors.

Galatasaray probable starting XI:

Cakir; Sallai, Sanchez, Bardakci, Jacobs; Torreira, Lemina; Sane, Akgon, Yilmaz; Osimhen

Antalyaspor probable starting XI:

Julian; Yesilyurt, Ozturk, Dzhikiya, Paal; Ceesay; Sinik, Dikmen, Safouri, Storm; Streak

While Galatasaray faced a significant setback last weekend, the chance to secure the title at RAMS Park should serve as ample motivation for a strong comeback.

Antalyaspor’s defensive strategy may cause some frustration for the hosts, but given Antalyaspor’s poor away performance and Galatasaray’s superior attack, it is challenging to envision anything other than a comfortable home win and yet another championship celebration in Istanbul.
