Brest vs Strasbourg – News and Probable Lineups

On Wednesday at Stade Francis-Le Ble, Strasbourg will face Brest in their final away fixture of the Ligue 1 season, with only pride at stake.

Brest suffered a 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday and currently sit 12th, nine points behind seventh-placed Strasbourg, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Angers.

Match overview

For over 80 minutes, Brest held their ground against a strong PSG team but ultimately failed to secure a crucial goal.

This issue has been a consistent problem for Brest recently, as they have scored one goal or fewer in three of their last four outings, and have gone scoreless in the last two.

Their winless streak in domestic matches has extended to seven games, although they have only lost once at home since February (4-3 to Rennes).

This year, they have managed to score in all but one match at Stade Francis-Le Ble, where they lost 2-0 to Toulouse in late January.

A loss on Wednesday would result in Eric Roy’s team suffering more defeats than they did throughout the entire 2024-25 domestic season (14).

Stade Brestois has not lost to Strasbourg in their last three home encounters, having secured a 3-1 victory in this fixture last season.

Strasbourg had a challenging week, as their hopes for a Conference League spot were dashed by Rayo Vallecano in the semi-finals, and their chances for qualifying for Europe for the next season ended on Sunday.

A victory on Wednesday would ensure they surpass the 50-point mark once again, and it would also give them their third consecutive away win in this competition.

Under Gary O’Neil, Strasbourg has struggled in their last two league matches, failing to secure victory after scoring the first goal and dropping seven points this year in such situations.

The Alsace club has scored a total of six goals in their previous two league away games, which is double what they scored in their three prior away matches.

They’ve managed to earn points in three of their last four Ligue 1 matches as visitors when conceding first, winning the last two such games 3-2.

Le Racing has dropped points in three of their last four meetings against teams from Brittany in the top flight, but they achieved a 3-2 win in their most recent such fixture against Lorient in April.

Team News

Bradley Locko is likely to be unavailable for Brest on Wednesday due to a hamstring strain, and Soumaila Coulibaly is also sidelined with a shin injury.

Kenny Lala is set to return from suspension, having missed the narrow defeat to PSG on Sunday.

Joaquin Panichelli, due to a torn cruciate ligament, will be out for the remainder of the season, Emmanuel Emgha is nursing a sore leg, and Aaron Anselmino’s participation is in question due to a hamstring injury.

Julio Enciso converted a penalty for Strasbourg in first-half stoppage time on Sunday, which was all they could manage against Angers.

Brest probable starting XI:

Coudert; Chotard, Chardonnet, Le Guen, Guindo; Tousart; Del Castillo, Balde, Magnetti, Labeau; Ajoque

Strasbourg probable starting XI:

Penders; God, Hogsberg, Chilwell; Enciso, Oyedele, Luis, Ouattara; Amo-Ameyaw, Moreira, Godo

Brest has been strong on home turf throughout the year, and it seems they could capitalize on a demoralized Strasbourg team that has narrowly missed out on couple of trophies this season.
