Betis vs Sevilla – News and Probable Lineups

Estadio de La Cartuja is set to host the next chapter of the Seville derby, where Real Betis will face off against Sevilla in Spain’s premier league.

Currently, Real Betis holds the fifth position in the La Liga standings, six points adrift of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, while Sevilla occupies the 12th spot, trailing sixth-placed Celta Vigo by eight points.

Match overview

Real Betis has accrued 10 points from their last four league encounters during a commendable run, positioning them fifth in the league table—six points behind fourth-placed Atletico and five ahead of sixth-placed Celta Vigo.

Manuel Pellegrini’s squad has been hindered by a significant number of draws (nine), preventing them from climbing higher in the table. They head into this fixture following a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano.

This season, Real Betis has shown resilience at home, securing 23 points from their 12 league matches in front of their fans, whereas Sevilla has managed only 14 points from their 12 away La Liga fixtures in the 2025-26 season.

El Glorioso, despite their historical challenges, have claimed victory in only 39 of their last 134 encounters with Sevilla across all competitions, but they have emerged victorious in their previous two meetings.

Notably, Real Betis triumphed over Sevilla 2-0 at Estadio Ramon earlier in the current season, and they recorded a 2-1 win in their previous encounter last year.

Sevilla has recorded just one victory in their last seven La Liga encounters with Real Betis, although the spoils have been shared on four occasions in that timeframe.

Matches between these two clubs are often intense, and Sevilla heads into this match on a positive note, having recently edged past Getafe with a 1-0 win.

Matias Almeyda’s team has only suffered a single defeat in their last six league outings and remains unbeaten in three consecutive fixtures, pushing them up to 12th place in the La Liga standings.

Sevilla now finds themselves five points clear of the relegation zone and just six points shy of the top seven, making a victory in the Seville derby crucial for various reasons.

Los Nervionenses narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 17th, their poorest top-flight performance since 1999-2000, but there have been some positives this season, particularly in recent weeks.

Team News

Real Betis will once again be missing Giovanni Lo Celso and Isco due to injuries, while both Aitor Ruibal and Cedric Bakambu will require assessment.

Valentin Gomez will be suspended for the home side this weekend, having picked up a significant yellow card in the recent match against Rayo Vallecano.

If Bakambu is ruled out, Cucho Hernandez is likely to step into the center-forward position, but the rest of the starting XI might remain unchanged from their last outing.

On the Sevilla side, Juanlu Sanchez is set to return to the squad after completing his suspension, while Tanguy Nianzou and Joan Jordânia are unavailable for this weekend’s match.

Marcao and Ruben Vargas are also sidelined for Sevilla due to injuries.

Cesar Azpilicueta could shift to the center of defense on Sunday to fill in for the suspended Nianzou, with Juanlu Sanchez expected to reclaim his position as right-back.

Real Betis probable starting XI:

Valles; Ruibal, Llorente, Nathan, Rodriguez; Fornals, Roca, Fidalgo; Antony, Hernandez, Ezzalzouli

Sevilla probable starting XI:

Vlachodimos; J Sanchez, Azpilicueta, Gudelj, Rooms, Suazo; Mendy, Agoume, Horse; Disappointment, Adams

We predict Real Betis will secure a third consecutive victory over Sevilla this weekend. It has been since November 2021 that Sevilla last triumphed over Real Betis away from home, and we are inclined to favor Pellegrini’s squad to edge a tight contest on Sunday.
