Bayern Munich vs Heidenheim – News and Probable Lineups

After some intense Champions League action, Bayern Munich will look to find their rhythm again in the Bundesliga as they face Heidenheim at Allianz Arena.

The reigning German champions currently have 82 points and enter this match following a 5-4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, while the visitors, sitting last in the standings, have amassed 22 points with three matches remaining.

Match overview

Host team led by Vincent Kompany showcased their remarkable talent against PSG, being part of the highest-scoring semi-final match in Champions League history.

Bayern’s defeat to PSG broke an unbeaten streak of 19 matches across all competitions, ending a run of nine consecutive victories.

The Bavarians’ focus on European competitions can be attributed to them being crowned league champions on April 19, which might explain their need to make a comeback from a 3-0 deficit to secure a 4-3 victory over Mainz 05 on April 25.

Remarkably, Bayern has scored 23 goals in their last six fixtures, achieving four or more goals in nine of their last 13 encounters.

On the defensive side, the club has conceded 13 goals in their last five matches, including seven in the previous four Bundesliga fixtures.

The hosts aim to claim their ninth consecutive home win, and a loss at Allianz Arena would mark just their second defeat in 23 games at the venue.

Should Heidenheim lose and if St Pauli, currently 16th, beats Mainz 05 on Sunday, they will officially be relegated from the Bundesliga.

The club is already positioned in the relegation zone, and their best chance is to aim for the playoff position, although they must overcome a four-point gap to St Pauli.

Manager Frank Schmidt communicated last week that he would depart at the end of next season, and many would agree he deserves the opportunity to lead the club back to the top division, having been at the helm since 2007 and guiding them from the fifth division to the Bundesliga.

In their previous encounter against Bayern in December 2025, the 52-year-old managed to witness a 4-0 defeat. His team has lost all three encounters with Bayern at Allianz Arena.

Heidenheim secured a 2-0 victory against St Pauli on April 25, and now boasts a record of two wins, two draws, and just one defeat in their last five matches, scoring 11 times and conceding on eight occasions.

A win for the visitors would mark their first away victory in 10 outings, while merely avoiding defeat would stop them from facing their eighth loss in 10 away appearances.

Team News

It is unlikely that Bayern will field a full-strength side as they prepare to host PSG next week, leading to expected significant changes, including Nicolas Jackson possibly replacing Harry Kane up front.

Regular centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah may be rested in favor of Hiroki Ito and Kim Min-Jae, while goalkeeper Manuel Neuer could potentially be replaced by Jonas Urbig.

If wingers Michael Olise and Luis Diaz make the starting lineup, they may be substituted at halftime, even if this involves bringing in defenders like Josip Stanisic to play in attacking roles.

For Heidenheim, with forwards Mikkel Kaufmann and Sirlord Conteh unavailable for Saturday’s match, the expected front three will likely feature Marvin Pieringer, Budu Zivzivadze, and Eren Dinkci.

There are also concerns regarding the fitness of centre-back Benedikt Gimber, who is nursing a minor injury, which might lead to Patrick Mainka and Jonas Fohrenbach being named in the lineup if he cannot participate.

Bayern Munich probable starting XI:

original; Laimer, Kim, Ito, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Ndiaye, Diaz; Jackson

Heidenheim probable starting XI:

Ramaj; Busch, Mainka, Fohrenbach, Behrens; Schoppner, Dorsch, Beck; Pieringer, Zivzivadze, Dinkci

This weekend could see an unexpected outcome if Bayern makes several changes and considering Heidenheim’s offensive capabilities.

Nevertheless, it is challenging to place confidence in the visitors, given Bayern’s strong performance throughout the Bundesliga season, although they may encounter more difficulty than anticipated.
