On Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain will face off against Troyes in their gameweek 10 fixture of Ligue 1 at Parc des Princes, aiming for a seventh league win in a row and their 11th consecutive triumph across all competitions.
The reigning champions of Europe have maintained a perfect record without dropping any points for two months, making Luis Enrique’s squad strong favorites to continue their winning streak against Troyes, who have managed to achieve only one win in their last seven games.
Match overview
PSG typically enters each Ligue 1 campaign as the frontrunner for the title, but their ongoing winning streak may even surprise some of their own fans.
Historically, Enrique’s side has exhibited a pattern of sluggish starts in the initial halves of seasons, only to find their form post-New Year; however, this season they seem to have hit their stride much earlier.
The squad experienced a notable setback following a 2-1 loss at Parc des Princes in early September, which left Les Parisiens with just two points from their first three games.
Since that time, PSG has ramped up their performances, beginning with a narrow 1-0 win against Brest, followed by victories over Marseille, Le Mans, Strasbourg, Lyon, and Le Havre, which have taken them to the summit of the Ligue 1 standings.
The Red and Blues may face challenges from Lille, sitting just two points behind, or Lyon and Paris FC, who are three points off, but it seems unlikely they will be overtaken.
This view is supported by Troyes’ current standing in the league, where they sit at 16th place, just a point above Le Mans who are in the relegation zone.
On a brighter note, Stephane Dumont’s side was in the bottom two before last weekend, when Mouhamed Diop and Ismael Boura helped secure an essential win after two months without one.
Nevertheless, taking on PSG poses a formidable challenge, and while Troyes has earned four points from their last six possible and managed consecutive clean sheets, this could still be a false dawn.
If ESTAC suffers a sixth league defeat on Saturday, they may slide back into the bottom two, unless Le Mans manages to win against Mônaco.
It appears likely given that PSG has not lost in their last 10 matchups against Troyes, winning nine of those fixtures, while Le Mans will need to break an eight-match winless run against Mônaco.
Team News
For PSG, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (knee) is a long-term injury concern, along with Nuno Mendes (muscle), Marquinhos (thigh), and Ousmane Dembele (thigh), all of whom are unavailable.
Ferran Torres has netted more goals than any other player at PSG in Ligue 1, but he has now gone seven games without finding the back of the net, including four league matches.
The current holders of Ligue 1 and the Champions League produced a remarkable performance midweek, thrashing Villarreal 6-0; Fabian Ruiz found the net twice, while Desire Doue and Senny Mayulu also scored, and Maghnes Akliouche registered two assists, with Joao Neves contributing both a goal and an assist.
On the other hand, ESTAC has had seven different players score, including Antoine Mille, Diop, Timothy Nkada, Lucas Maronnier, Jeremy Le Douaron, Ismael Boura, and Renaud Ripart.
While Troyes have fewer players sidelined, Yacouba Kone (knee) will miss Saturday’s clash, whereas Anis Ouzenadji (knee) is nearing fitness but remains a doubt for this match.
Paris Saint-Germain probable starting XI:
Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyi, Pacho, Digne; Neves, Beraldo, Ruiz; Akliouche, Torres, Godts
Troyes probable starting XI:
Conate; Maronnier, Monfray, Diaz Jr, Iweru; Mille, Karim, Diop; Ifnaoui, Ripart, Nkada
Troyes have managed to instill some confidence by earning four points and securing consecutive clean sheets, but facing the European champions represents a much tougher challenge than their recent encounters.
Following their recent demolition of Villarreal, PSG possesses enough match-winners to compensate for their injury absences and is expected to continue their victory streak with a solid home win.
