Mallorca vs Real Madrid – News and Probable Lineups

Real Madrid will seek to close the gap to one point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona when they continue their domestic schedule against struggling Mallorca on Saturday afternoon.

Los Blancos currently sit in second place in the La Liga rankings, four points adrift of Barcelona, whereas Mallorca find themselves in 18th place, just one point behind 17th-placed Elche in the fight for survival in Spain’s top tier.

Match overview

Mallorca ended last season in 10th place in Spain’s top division and were not expected to face difficulties this season, yet it has turned into a challenging campaign for the Pirates, who have garnered only 28 points from 29 matches, placing them in 18th position.

Martin Demichelis’ team achieved a significant 2-1 victory over Espanyol on March 15, but they suffered a critical defeat against fellow relegation candidates Elche in their last match, falling 2-1.

Mallorca remains just one point behind 17th-placed Elche and only three points behind Sevilla in 15th, which suggests that there is still plenty of time in the season without panicking.

The Pirates have shown a solid home league record this season, amassing 22 points from 14 games, with only four defeats.

While Mallorca has won just one of their last 11 encounters with Real Madrid, they did manage to hold the Los Blancos to a 1-1 draw when the teams last faced off during the 2024-25 season.

Real Madrid headed into the March international break on the heels of a thrilling 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid, which has kept their hopes alive in the La Liga title race, as they stand second, four points behind the leaders Barcelona, who will face Atletico in a thrilling encounter on Saturday night.

Los Blancos will be hoping for a favor from their capital rivals, as Alvaro Arbeloa’s side enters this match with a five-match winning streak, which includes two victories over Manchester City in the Champions League to secure their spot in the final eight.

Real Madrid will compete against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the European Cup, with the first leg of this last-eight tie scheduled to take place at Bernabeu next week, but they must stay focused on La Liga, as one more poor result could severely damage their title ambitions.

Los Blancos currently possess the best away record in the league, having collected 30 points from 14 matches, with nine victories to their name.

Real Madrid has emerged victorious in their last three contests against Mallorca, although their earlier match this season at Bernabeu was closely contested, with the hosts coming from behind to win 2-1.

Team News

Mallorca is set to welcome Jan Virgili and Johan Mojica back into their starting lineup on Saturday, as both are available again following suspensions that kept them from participating in the previous game against Elche.

However, Jan Salas (knee) and Lucas Bergstrom (muscle) will remain sidelined for the hosts, while Takuma Asano (hamstring) and Marash Kumbulla (muscle) will undergo late fitness assessments.

Vedat Muriqi has displayed exceptional performance throughout the 2026-27 season, netting 18 goals in Spain’s top division, and will continue to play a key role in the attack.

For Real Madrid, Federico Valverde (suspended), Dani Ceballos (calf), Rodrygo (knee) and Thibaut Courtois (thigh) will be absent for selection this weekend.

Additionally, Ferland Mendy (hamstring), Raul Asencio (muscle), Eder Militao (hamstring) and Vinicius Junior (thigh) may also miss out for the capital club on Saturday.

Vinicius has been dealing with a thigh issue during the international break and it is believed he will start on the bench against Mallorca.

Jude Bellingham is also likely to be managed carefully, given that he has just returned from injury, with expectations that the England international will also start among the substitutes.

This could lead to starting opportunities for Thiago Pitarch, Eduardo Camavinga, and Brahim Diaz.

Mallorca probable starting XI:

Novel; Maffeo, Raillo, Valgent, Mojica; Costa, Mascarell; Joseph, Torre, Virgil; Muriqi

Real Madrid probable starting XI:

Lunin; Alexander-Arnold, Rudiger, Huijsen, Carreras; Pitarch, Tchouameni, Camavinga; Guler; Diaz, Mbappe

Mallorca is certainly capable of better performance than they have displayed thus far this season, and we anticipate a closely contested match on Saturday in terms of the scoreline; nonetheless, Los Blancos must secure a victory, and we expect the visitors to achieve this to inch closer to leaders Barcelona.
