New York City vs Inter Miami – News and Probable Lineups

In a rematch of the 2025 Eastern Conference final, New York City FC will look to keep their unbeaten MLS record intact as they host Inter Miami at Yankee Stadium this Sunday.

The Pigeons are at the top of the Eastern Conference standings following a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids last week, while Miami sits in third place, just three points behind, after a goalless draw with Charlotte FC.

Match overview

While the regular season began on a less than favorable note for New York City, they have experienced relatively smooth sailing in their recent matches.

After conceding a goal just two minutes into the first match of the season, ending in a 1-1 draw against Los Angeles Galaxy, this team has now outscored their last three opponents by a total of 10-2.

A win on Sunday would mark their fourth consecutive victory, the longest winning streak since Pascal Jansen took command before the 2025 season.

In their last four regular-season games at Yankee Stadium, the home team has won each match, scoring three or more goals on three separate occasions.

NYCFC has won all five of their MLS home games in March, with their last loss in this month occurring in 2024 against the Portland Timbers (2-1).

Their sole encounter this season with a Florida-based team resulted in a resounding 5-0 win against Orlando City in the Bronx, their largest victory in this competition since defeating Real Salt Lake 6-0 in April 2022.

As the 2026 season unfolds, the MLS Cup champions have exhibited a string of inconsistent performances at home.

Although they are currently on a three-match unbeaten streak in the league, the Herons have failed to find the back of the net in two of their last three competitive matches.

They have been kept scoreless in two of their four league clashes this season, and this Sunday they could experience back-to-back matches without scoring for the first time since May 2023.

This fixture will conclude their five-match Away trip, with Javier Mascherano’s squad managing to collect points in six successive road games against Eastern Conference teams in the regular season.

Miami also risks dropping points in consecutive MLS away fixtures this weekend for the first time since August to September 2025 when they had three winless games in a row.

The Herons have not lost to New York City FC in their last six encounters in all competitions, having triumphed 4-0 at Citi Field last year for their first away win against the Boys in Blue.

Team News

Injury concerns regarding the legs may prevent Andres Perea, Alonso Martinez, and Malachi Jones from appearing for New York City this Sunday.

Nicolas Fernandez scored twice for them last Saturday against the Rapids, while Talles Magno came onto the field for Keaton Parks in the second half, netting his first goal of the new season.

For Miami, Maximiliano Falcon is the only injury worry as he contends with a left knee problem that may sideline him for another match.

Rocco Rios Novo took over from Dayne St Clair in goal during the match against Charlotte, making four saves for his first clean sheet of the regular season, while reigning league MVP Lionel Messi has found the net in two of their last three MLS matches.

New York City FC probable starting XI:

Freese; Gray, Martins, Trewin, O’Toole; O’Neill, Moralez, Parks; Ojeda, Fernandez, Wolf

Inter Miami probable starting XI:

Rios Novo; Fray, Lujan, Allen, Reguilon; Silvetti, Ruiz, Segovia, Morales; Messi, Berterame

Miami tends to rebound strongly after a challenging match, and it is believed they will find a way to conclude their road trip on a high note this weekend.
