New Inglaterra xInter Miami - prediction, team news, lineups

The New Inglaterra Revolution has the opportunity to secure second place in the Eastern Conference this Sunday as they prepare to host Inter Miami at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough during MLS action.

A recent 3-2 victory over the New York Red Bulls has positioned the Revs in second place in the East, holding a two-point lead over Miami, who managed a 2-2 draw at home against FC Cincinnati.

Match overview

The Revolution has made significant strides since last year and is gaining valuable momentum as they head toward the MLS Cup playoffs.

A win this Sunday would ensure Marko Mitrovic’s squad secures the second seed in the East as they head into the playoffs, marking their first appearance in the postseason since 2023.

Moreover, a victory would enable them to finish the regular season with 60 points or more for only the second time in club history, the first being in 2021 when they set a then-MLS record for points in a season (73).

This record has since been surpassed by Miami (74 points in 2024), yet New Inglaterra can tie a franchise record for home wins by achieving maximum points this Sunday.

Heading into this match, they are currently on a four-match winning streak in this competition, with the possibility of clinching five consecutive domestic wins for the first time since 2021.

If they manage to win their final two league matches before the playoffs, they would finish with at least 20 wins in a single regular season for only the second time in the history of the franchise, following the 2021 team (22).

Inter Miami has experienced a slight downturn as October comes to a close, which could jeopardize their chances of finishing second in the East.

For them to change that, the reigning MLS Cup champions need to conclude the regular season with more points than the Revs, as the latter currently hold three more wins, serving as the first tiebreaker if necessary.

Kily Gonzalez’s side will be aiming to break a two-match winless spell in MLS on Sunday and avoid suffering back-to-back domestic away defeats for the first time this year.

This year, Inter Miami has found it challenging to clinch victories in four league matches after scoring first, dropping a total of nine points as a consequence, although they have not lost an away match in the regular season after netting the first goal since 2023 (5-2 defeat at Atlanta United).

On Sunday, they have the opportunity to record double-digit away victories in this competition for only the second time in club history, having previously achieved 11 MLS road wins in 2024.

The Herons have remained undefeated in their last five league encounters with the Revs while also winning their last two visits to Gillette Stadium.

Team News

Alhassan Yusuf is likely to be sidelined for the Revs due to a hamstring strain, while Jack Harrison remains a doubt because of a sore quad. Additionally, former Miami striker Leonardo Campana is also unlikely to play as he grapples with a lower-body injury.

Dor Turgeman scored two goals on Wednesday, with Daniel Gazdag netting the winner in a match that witnessed midfielder Carles Gil become only the eighth player in MLS history to reach 100 regular-season assists.

On Miami’s side, Mateo Silvetti is still recuperating from a shoulder problem, Tadeo Allende has a knee injury, and Israel Boatwright is out due to a torn cruciate ligament.

Leading the league with 25 goals, Lionel Messi, who is in contention for a historic third consecutive MLS MVP award, has struggled to score or provide assists in his last two games, whereas Luis Suarez and Riquelme Fillipi managed to score in their draw against Cincinnati.

New Inglaterra Revolution probable starting XI:

gymnasts; Feingold, Kohler, Wynder, Miller; Gil, Polster, Yueill; Langoni, Turgeman, Gazdag

Inter Miami probable starting XI:

St. Clair; Lujan, Casemiro, Micael, Fray; De Paul, Ayala, Morales; Messi, Suarez, Berterame

Considering their experience and talent, placing second might not hold the same significance for Miami as it does for the Revs, which is why an entertaining contest may be on the cards, with the visitors likely content to leave with a single point.
