AC Milan xBologna - prediction, team news, lineups

As one of the four unbeaten teams in Serie A, AC Milan will be looking to maintain their streak this Wednesday night as they host Bologna at San Siro.

A victory during the weekend allowed Milan to remain in the top four of Italy’s standings, while Bologna secured their second away win of the season, creating more distance from the relegation zone.

Match overview

Following a midweek disaster in England, where they were down to 10 men and faced a 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth, Milan bounced back impressively on Sunday by defeating Serie A underperformers Udinese.

By handing their opponents a sixth consecutive defeat, the Rossoneri delivered a solid rebuttal to their Europa League setback, with goals from Christian Pulisic and Omari Hutchinson.

Ruben Amorim has maintained his unbeaten record since joining Serie A, as Milan remains just four points behind their city counterparts and current league leaders Inter.

The gap may reduce when the rivals clash in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday evening, but first, Amorim’s squad must focus on achieving a third straight Serie A victory.

Surprisingly, Milan has yet to accomplish this minor goal throughout 2026, struggling toward the end of the previous season.

Yet to lose at home since Amorim’s appointment, the Rossoneri defeated Bologna twice last season, with only one loss in their past 21 league encounters at San Siro.

While Bologna triumphed in the most significant match recently by winning the 2025 Coppa Italia final, they have suffered losses in eight of their last ten away matches against Milan.

However, both of their league victories this season have been on the road, including a 2-0 win against Cagliari on Saturday, where Nicolo Casale and Federico Bernardeschi scored in the second half.
The team has shown improvement since a winless start to the 2026-27 season, which cost Domenico Tedesco his position, and new head coach Raffaele Palladino has made a quick impact.

He began with a 1-1 draw against Torino, followed by a 2-1 win over Lecce, and after a loss to Inter, they secured full points in Sardinia.

Now, they face a tough test midweek, as Palladino aims to be only the third coach to capture victories in his initial three Serie A away matches with Bologna.

Team News

With one eye on Inter, Amorim is expected to implement some changes before the Milan derby, which could see veteran playmaker Luka Modric starting on the bench.

Samuel Chukwueze, Mattia Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers, and Filippo Terracciano remain unavailable, while the fitness of Adrien Rabiot and Diego Moreira, who missed the Udine match due to muscle issues, is uncertain.

Mario Gila and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also doubts, but Christian Pulisic should be ready to feature from the start if needed. The American is back in form, having contributed to four goals in his last seven Serie A games – as many as he had in the previous 20.

Bologna’s injury list is considerably shorter, with Roberto Piccoli and Riccardo Orsolini joining long-term absentee Emil Holm in recovery.

Jens Odgaard has filled in for Piccoli in attack, but Artem Dovbyk offers a more traditional center-forward option alongside Jay Enem.

Former Milan player Tommaso Pobega, who progressed through the Rossoneri academy and made 30 senior appearances, could partner Lewis Ferguson in midfield.

AC Milan probable starting XI:

Maignan; Tomori, De Winter, Pavlovic, Bartesaghi; Hutchinson, Jashari, Musah, Cisse; Pulisic, Ramos

Bologna probable starting XI:

Skorupski; Darmian, Casale, Theate; Zortea, Ferguson, Pobega, Miranda; Bernardeschi, Odgaard, Cambiaghi

Although not reaching their highest performance level, Milan is steadily gaining momentum and typically elevate their play at home.

While Bologna’s managerial change has signified a turning point, they are lacking in edge, suggesting their poor record at San Siro may continue.
