Marseille vs Toulouse – News and Probable Lineups

Marseille and Toulouse will meet for the third time in Coupe de França as they compete for a spot in the semi-finals at Stade Velodrome this Wednesday.

Marseille cruised into the quarter-finals with a convincing 3-0 victory over Rennes, while Toulouse narrowly defeated Amiens with a 1-0 scoreline.

Match overview

In contrast to their Ligue 1 performance for much of 2026, Marseille has shown great dominance in the Coupe de França throughout the season.

The ten-time champions have effortlessly won their three Coupe de França matches so far with an aggregate score of 18-0, although Stade Rennais was the sole top-flight team they encountered during this run.

This Wednesday will be Habib Beye’s first encounter in this competition since he succeeded Roberto De Zerbi as head coach. The former Marseille right back has only lost once at home in this tournament as a manager, with his Red Star team suffering a 2-0 defeat against Mônaco in 2021.

Beye has a chance to lead his team to their first semi-final since 2016, when they reached the final only to fall to Paris Saint-Germain 4-2.

Les Olympiens have not been defeated in a Coupe de França match at Stade Velodrome in regular time since Nice triumphed 5-4 in 2014, yet they were knocked out in their last quarter-final home fixture at this tournament, losing to Annecy on penalties in 2023.

Marseille boasts an unbeaten streak against Toulouse, going 17 matches without a loss in all competitions, with their last home victory against them at the Velodrome coming in Ligue 1 last year (3-2).

This fixture appears to be one Toulouse particularly excels at, having reached the quarter-finals last month for the third time this decade.

However, it has been a tough road for Carles Martinez’s squad this time, managing to advance with narrow victories over lower-division teams Lyon La Duchere and Amiens, plus a penalty shootout win over Angers.

Moreover, they have not lost a quarter-final match in this tournament since 1993 (1-0 against Stade Lavallois), and they won their last encounter in the last eight at Stadium de Toulouse with a resounding 6-1 victory over Rodez.

Toulouse has experienced three consecutive away defeats across all competitions but remain unbeaten in the Coupe de França on the road since Rouen eliminated them in a lengthy penalty shootout in 2024.

Two of their last three Coupe de França quarter-finals played this century have seen them progress, although neither of these wins came away from home.

They have not triumphed against Marseille at Stade Velodrome since a 1-0 victory in 2012 Ligue 1, while their sole win in this competition against them came in Toulouse during the third round of 1984 (2-1).

Team News

Leonardo Balerdi is expected to be sidelined for this match due to a head injury, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be unavailable because of suspension.

Amine Gouiri, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, and Mason Greenwood all scored in the round of 16, with the former Manchester United striker now having netted five goals in this tournament.

On the Toulouse side, Abu Francis is dealing with a lower leg issue, Rasmus Nicolaisen is recovering from a thigh strain, and Aron Donnum was absent from their last Ligue 1 match due to a club-imposed ban for alleged racial behavior earlier in the season.

Yann Gboho scored shortly before halftime against Amiens in early February, and Kjetil Haug registered a clean sheet after saving the only shot he faced while filling in for first-choice keeper Guillaume Restes.

Marseille probable starting XI:

Rolls; Weah, Aguerd, Egan-Riley, Medina; Condogbia, Timber; Greenwood, January, Paixao; Gouiri

Toulouse probable starting XI:

Restes; Sidibe, McKenzie, Cresswell; Kamanzi, Vossah, Casseres, Methalie; Sauer, Gboho; Emerson

Toulouse has shown to be a capable tournament team in recent years, but Marseille has been a persistent hurdle for them, which could be heavy on their minds.
