Dortmund xBetis - prediction, team news, lineups

BVB Stadion is set to host a captivating Champions League encounter on Wednesday night, with Borussia Dortmund taking on Real Betis.

Currently, Dortmund finds themselves in 13th place in the Champions League group stage standings, having secured six points from three games, while Real Betis sits fifth with nine points.

Match overview

The 2026-27 Champions League campaign for Dortmund commenced with a 3-2 victory at home against Villarreal, followed by a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bodo/Glimt in their second game. However, they bounced back in their latest outing, edging past Sabah 2-1.

Dortmund’s tally of six points from three matches has placed them 13th overall, but they come into this fixture with a five-match unbeaten streak, including a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last Saturday.

With three wins out of their last four matches, Dortmund prepares to face Real Betis for the first time, and they have triumphed in each of their last four UEFA encounters against Spanish teams, all of which were played at home.

Following this match, Niko Kovac’s team will have consecutive Bundesliga fixtures against Elversberg and Borussia Monchengladbach before returning to continental competition to face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on November 24.

In the previous season, Dortmund reached the knockout stage playoffs of the Champions League, only to be eliminated by Atalanta BC, so they have room for growth in the current campaign.

In contrast, Real Betis heads into the game following a 2-1 victory over Malaga in La Liga, leaving them in fourth place in the league table.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side has enjoyed a strong start to the 2026-27 season, winning all three of their Champions League fixtures so far.

The team from Seville kicked off their European journey with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Lille, followed by another 3-2 victory over Porto, and then they increased their points tally to nine with a 1-0 win against Feyenoord. They currently sit fifth in the overall standings.

Real Betis reached the quarter-finals of the 2025-26 Europa League, where they were defeated by Braga, and they also competed in the 2024-25 Conference League final, succumbing to Chelsea.

El Glorioso last participated in the Champions League during the 2005-06 season, where they were eliminated in the group stage, but they appear to have the capability to progress to the knockout rounds in this season’s tournament.

Team News

Dortmund will be missing Kaua Prates due to a muscle injury, but they otherwise maintain a strong squad as they prepare to face Real Betis.

Serhou Guirassy has been in excellent form this season, netting eight goals and providing two assists in 13 appearances, and he will retain his position in the attacking front.

Fabio Silva, who has contributed five goals and two assists in 13 matches this season, is also expected to start, alongside Jobe Bellingham, who is likely to be deployed as an advanced midfielder for the German side.

For Real Betis, Cucho Hernandez (calf) and Junior Firpo (muscle) will miss out on this match, but no other injury concerns have been reported.

Three players for Real Betis have scored four goals each this season: Isco, Marc Bartra, and Abde Ezzalzouli, and they are anticipated to form part of the starting lineup.

Troy Parrott has found the back of the net twice in 11 appearances for the Seville side during this campaign and is expected to take part in the starting XI due to Hernandez’s absence.

Moreover, Antony and Pablo Fornals are likely to be included in the lineup as well.

Dortmund probable starting XI:

Kobel; Gadou, Anton, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Veerman, Nmecha, Svensson; Bellingham; F Silva, Guirassy

Real Betis probable starting XI:

Valles; Bellerin, Bartra, Nathan, F Garcia; Fornals, Roca; Antony, Isco, Ezzalzouli; Parrott

Real Betis has displayed impressive performances in this season’s Champions League and commands considerable respect, yet facing Dortmund at home presents a real challenge, and we predict that BVB will narrowly secure a victory in this matchup on Wednesday.
