Como xVenezia - prediction, team news, lineups

Como and Venezia will meet at Stadio Sinigaglia for the Serie A match on Sunday afternoon, showcasing two teams with notably different form.

The hosts, Como, have continued their winning streak, staying competitive with the top three in Italy, while Venezia, on the other hand, is struggling, having suffered their eighth defeat of the season.

Match overview

Currently on a four-match winning streak, Como has netted 12 goals while conceding only three, following a minor dip in performance before the international break.

After achieving a historic Champions League win against Manchester United, the Lariani continued their success by overcoming both Fiorentina and Sassuolo in Serie A, maintaining their momentum into midweek.

On Tuesday evening, Como fell behind due to a mistake by Jacobo Ramon, who let Torino find the net with the opener; however, both teams struck the bar before Cesc Fabregas’s side managed to secure all three points.

Ramon made amends for his earlier error, heading in an equalizer in the 81st minute, followed by Nico Paz who completed the turnaround, with Martin Baturina adding the finishing touch.

A club-record of 20 points from nine matches has placed Como just ahead of local rivals AC Milan in the fourth position, where they finished last season, and keeps them close to the current top three.

Only Inter de Milano and both clubs from Rome are positioned higher; thus, Fabregas and his players might even find themselves in contention for the Scudetto.

In stark contrast, Venezia enters this fixture on a woeful run, having managed just three points since their promotion back to Serie A.

After their return to Italy’s top division last spring, the Lagunari replaced Giovanni Stroppa with survival expert Davide Nicola, who surprisingly led them to a victory over Napoli in his debut match.

Nonetheless, normalcy returned quickly, as Venezia fell 1-0 to Genoa last weekend, and then faced the league leaders and reigning champions at Stadio Penzo on Wednesday.

Despite their last place standing, they fought valiantly against Inter yet ended up conceding two late own goals, which sealed their defeat.

With eight losses from nine games, Venezia will now journey from the lagoon to Como’s picturesque lakeside ground, with Nicola likely concerned about how to keep the Lariani at bay.

While Como possesses a potent attack, the Arancioneroverdi have only found the back of the net six times in Serie A and are conceding over two goals per match.

Team News

Considering Como’s packed fixture schedule, Fabregas fielded a strong side in Turin, so he might opt to rotate his squad when facing Serie A’s bottom team.

However, he will be without Trevoh Chalobah, Jesus Rodriguez, and Assane Diao due to injuries, while Mattia Liberali and Jayden Addai are both uncertain.

Despite the heavy burden of minutes played, top scorer Tasos Douvikas could remain in the starting role, with Italian striker Moise Kean sidelined until December following treatment for a lingering shin issue.

It remains to be seen whether John Yeboah will rejoin his strike partnership with Venezia’s record signing, Akor Adams.

Lion Lauerbach unexpectedly started in midweek, where he missed a critical opportunity against Inter, but those positions could potentially switch at Stadio Sinigaglia.

The injured trio of Marin Sverko, Bartol Franjic, and Andrea Adorante remains unavailable, while wing-back Thierry Correia is battling to recover from a thigh strain.

Como probable starting XI:

Butez; Smolcic, Ramon, Kambwala, Kaiki; Milla, Ricci; Da Cunha, Paz, Baturina; Douvikas

Venezia probable starting XI:

Stankovic; Halhal, Moreno, Jesus; Hainaut, Perez, Busio, Sohm, Haps; Yeboah, Adams

Although Venezia have historically provided some resistance at Stadio Penzo, they have yet to secure a point away from home – and that drought seems likely to continue.

Como may feel the pressure from an arduous schedule – and several backup players are currently sidelined – yet their collective individual quality typically shines through.
