West Ham xWest Brom - prediction, team news, lineups

Seeking to avoid consecutive defeats for the first time this campaign, West Ham United will host a well-performing West Bromwich Albion team at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a Championship clash.

The Hammers suffered a setback at home against promotion rivals Southampton in their previous outing, while the Baggies managed to earn a draw at Preston North End, albeit with a less than stellar performance.

Match overview

The clear frontrunners in the Championship promotion battle this year, West Ham faced a disappointing defeat at the London Stadium last Saturday as fellow title contenders Southampton prevailed 3-2.

Goals from Kuryu Matsuki, James Bree, and Lewis Dobbin during the first half proved decisive for the visiting Saints, who would have been higher in the table if not for a four-point deduction at the start of the season.

Despite that defeat, Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad is still in good shape as they aim for an immediate return to the Premier League, with West Ham currently positioned third in the Championship standings after 12 matches.

Similar to their experiences in the top league, recent times have not been kind to West Ham at home, as they have gone winless in their last three games (D1 L2) across both league and EFL Cup competitions.

In fact, both of West Ham’s Championship losses this season have occurred at their East London venue, which brings a glimmer of hope for West Brom, who have managed to win only once at this ground in the last ten years.

Following disappointing derby defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers (0-1) and Birmingham City (0-1), West Brom has pulled together a three-match unbeaten streak (W2 D1) as they vie for a playoff spot in the Championship.

After comeback wins over Wrexham and Blackburn Rovers, a lackluster outing and result at Deepdale last weekend saw them salvage a point from a late equalizer by Jimmy-Jay Morgan against bottom-placed Preston.

Nonetheless, West Brom’s start to the season has surpassed expectations from before the campaign began, with the Black Country team holding fifth place, just two points behind second-placed Swansea City.

With four Championship goals this season after being credited with Albion’s equalizer at Preston, former Chelsea player Morgan has adapted to the second tier remarkably well, to the relief of head coach James Morrison.

After the departures of Championship veterans Josh Maja and Karlan Grant over the summer, West Brom needed a dependable source of goals, which Morgan, Issac Price, and Aune Heggebo have delivered thus far.

Team News

Keiber Lamadrid, who joined from Deportivo La Guaira in 2026, is facing a muscular injury that is interrupting his first full season at West Ham.

Should they choose to make changes to the lineup that lost to Southampton, the Hammers have several options, with Oliver Scarles, Tomas Soucek, and Joel Piroe all vying for starting roles.

West Brom head coach Morrison has made significant rotations in his squad throughout the season, with Morgan and Heggebo initially starting on the bench against Preston.

It’s possible those attacking players could return to the starting lineup this weekend, potentially replacing Barney Stewart and Felix Horn Myhre.

The visitors are short of options at right-back, with Noah Galves ruled out for the season due to a serious knee injury.

West Ham United probable starting XI:

Hermansen; Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Kilman, Scarles; Bowen, Mukasa, Engels, Solomon; Castellanos, Piroe

West Bromwich Albion probable starting XI:

O’Leary; Pereira, Mepham, Campbell, Styles; Nzingoula, Molumby, Diakite, Price; Morgan, Heggebo

Following their recent loss to Southampton, West Ham will be eager to avoid another disappointing result at the London Stadium this weekend.

Although West Brom has had a solid start to their campaign, their visit to East London this Saturday may prove to be more than they can handle.
