Atlanta United will make their first competitive trip to Allianz Field as they prepare to take on Minnesota United in MLS action this Wednesday.

Following a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake over the weekend, the Loons moved up to ninth place in the Western Conference, while Atlanta remains at the bottom of the Eastern Conference despite a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls.

Match overview

Minnesota is currently clinging onto the last playoff spot in the West, with three teams just one point behind them.

This Wednesday, a win could secure their playoff position at a minimum, and also help them snap an eight-match winless streak in domestic competitions.

Head coach Cameron Knowles has seen his squad drop points in six consecutive MLS home games; however, the Loons can extend their unbeaten home run at Allianz Field to four matches during the midweek match.

This season, Minnesota United has a perfect home record against Eastern Conference teams, winning their February opener against FC Cincinnati 1-0.

They have managed to come back from behind to earn points in six matches this year, although out of the 10 MLS points obtained, nine were acquired away from home.

Their best defensive displays have occurred at Allianz Field, where four of their five clean sheets in the regular season have taken place.

Atlanta United supporters finally got to celebrate last weekend when the Five Stripes ended an eight-match winless streak across all competitions.

Gerardo Martino’s side has the opportunity to escape the bottom position in the Eastern Conference this Wednesday with a victory and depending on the outcomes of matches involving the Philadelphia Union and/or CF Montreal.

They also seek to end a seven-game winless run away from home in all competitions, having lost five of those encounters.

Atlanta will attempt to avoid a third consecutive away loss in MLS this week, after conceding a total of seven goals in their most recent two losses.

In total, they have only garnered four points on the road in the league this season while failing to score in five away matches thus far in 2026.

The Five Stripes hold the advantage in their historical meetings with Minnesota, winning four out of six regular season encounters, including their last two trips to Minnesota by an aggregate score of 7-1.

Team News

Minnesota may be without Nectar Triantis, Peter Stroud, and Nicolas Romero due to injuries to their lower bodies for the upcoming fixture.

Joaquin Pereyra found the net just before the 90-minute mark to earn a point against Salt Lake last weekend, marking his second goal of the season.

For Atlanta, Will Reilly is dealing with an ankle issue, Ajani Fortune has a hamstring strain, and newly signed Mauricio Amaro might not feature as his paperwork is still in process.

Tristan Muyumba and Fafa Picault scored goals in the second half last Saturday to help secure a dramatic comeback victory.

Minnesota United probable starting XI

Callender; Diaz, Boxall, Duggan, Markanich; Duncan, Trapp, Harvey, Chancalay; Pereira; Jeboah

Atlanta United probable starting XI

Holes; Edwards, Gregersen, Alonso, Hernandez; Miranchuk, Alzate, Sanchez, Muyumba; Picault, Almiron

Although their current form may not reflect it, Atlanta possesses significant attacking strength that could be unleashed, and it is expected that they will shine against a Minnesota team struggling at home.
