Manchester United xAC Milan - prediction, team news, lineups

Manchester United will finalize their preparations for the 2026-27 Premier League season with a match against AC Milan in Wroclaw, Poland on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils recently secured the Boyle Sports Cup on penalties against Leeds United, while Ruben Amorim’s Milan faced a 3-0 setback against Chelsea in their most recent fixture.

Match overview

Man United has already claimed the Snapdragon Cup and the Boyle Sports Cup during their pre-season, having achieved the former with a 2-1 triumph over Atletico Madrid at the beginning of August, followed by a penalty shootout victory against Leeds United on Wednesday for the latter title.

Michael Carrick’s team endured a 1-0 loss to Wrexham in their initial pre-season match, but subsequent performances have shown improvement, with a commanding 5-0 win over Rosenborg in their second outing, as well as a 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain surrounding matches against Atletico and Leeds.

The match with Leeds ended in a 1-1 draw, but Man United triumphed in the penalty shootout, concluding their pre-season against Milan before beginning their 2026-27 Premier League campaign away against Hull City on August 22.

During this summer’s transfer window, Man United has welcomed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow, and Tynan Thompson, with expectations of further activity before the deadline in early September.

This fixture will see the Red Devils face their former manager Amorim, who had a challenging tenure with the 20-time English champions from November 2024 to January 2026.

Amorim took over as Milan’s manager in mid-June, yet he has not yet achieved a victory, with the Serie A side recording two draws and one loss in their three pre-season encounters thus far.

Milan commenced their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against Celtic before a 1-1 stalemate with Inter Milan, but they faced a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in their latest outing.

The Red and Blacks will wrap up their pre-season against Manchester United before starting their 2026-27 Serie A campaign away at Torino on August 23.

After finishing fifth in Serie A last season, Milan has made three signings this summer, bringing in Goncalo Ramos, Mario Gila, and Sankhoun Diawara.

There will be considerable attention on Amorim during this match following his unsuccessful tenure at Manchester United, where he managed to win only 24 out of 63 matches, suffering 21 losses along the way.

Team News

Man United may feature Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, Marcus Rashford, and Benjamin Sesko in their lineup for this encounter, all of whom are hoping to see their first pre-season action.

Harry Maguire was rested for the fixture against Leeds but is anticipated to return here, while Bruno Fernandes, Youri Tielemans, Luke Shaw, and Matheus Cunha could also make their way into the starting XI.

There are still some uncertainties surrounding Mason Mount, who missed the match against Leeds due to a foot injury sustained during the encounter with PSG last weekend.

Andrey Santos has been one of the standout players for Man United during pre-season, and the Brazilian is expected to start once again; it would be surprising if the former Chelsea midfielder were not included in the first team against Hull on August 22.

Milan, conversely, may introduce Ramos into their first team, with the high-profile signing from PSG having made a substitute appearance against Chelsea in their last match.

Amorim is likely to maintain his 3-4-2-1 formation, which did not yield successful results at Manchester United, and there are indications that Rafael Leao may once again start, as he is being heavily linked with a transfer away from the San Siro giants.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also expected to be a key starter, in addition to veteran midfielder Luka Modric, while Samuel Chukwueze could again occupy a wing-back position.

Manchester United probable starting XI

Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Tielemans, Santos; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Bleeding

AC Milan probable starting XI

Torriani; Terracciano, De Winter, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Modric, Comotto, Estupinan; Loftus-Cheek, Ramos, Leao

Milan’s display against Chelsea was significantly lacking, and it is anticipated that Manchester United will hold a distinct quality advantage over the Italian side on Saturday.
