Frosinone, who have netted 13 times in three fixtures, will look to continue their impressive Serie A campaign when they face Torino at Stadio Stirpe on Sunday.
Currently sitting four points ahead of their opponents, the newly promoted squad is exceeding all expectations, though Torino’s recent success was sadly interrupted earlier this week.
Match overview
Becoming known as one of the most entertaining sides in Serie A, Frosinone’s return to the top flight has kicked off brilliantly, with the team currently in sixth position after nine matches.
The squad led by Massimiliano Alvini has suffered defeats only to Napoli and Juventus – making a statement with their aggressive, attacking style, and breaking several records along the way.
Not only have the Canarini accumulated 17 points already – matching the total achieved by Juventus back in 2007 – but their total of 22 goals is now a record for any team promoted to the league at this stage.
Additionally, Frosinone secured an unprecedented fourth consecutive Serie A victory at home during midweek.
Following an exhilarating 4-4 draw with Atalanta, they possibly felt a bit unfortunate to win ‘only’ 5-1 against Lecce at Stadio Stirpe, where Antonio Raimondo marked his eighth goal of the season.
Raimondo is sharing the top spots in the Capocannoniere race, and multiple teammates have also found the net on at least two occasions – with even his substitute Daniel Birligea netting twice on Thursday.
As such, Alvini’s squad will be keen to carry this momentum into a clash that has often proven to be challenging for Frosinone.
Torino boasts an impressive record of three wins and no losses in their last five top-flight encounters, although Frosinone did eliminate them from the Coppa Italia three years back.
After experiencing a lull, new Torino head coach Ignazio Abate is aiming for better results this season, and following a slow start, there are evident signs of improvement.
Recently, the Granata enjoyed their finest Serie A streak in seven years, with three consecutive victories within a single campaign.
Gathering 13 points from six fixtures set them up for Tuesday’s meeting with high-flying Como, where Abate faced his former contemporary Cesc Fabregas.
However, despite being in front until the 81st minute at Stadio Olimpico Grande, Torino collapsed and ultimately lost 3-1.
This left them in ninth place, trailing their city rivals Juventus and four points behind the in-form Frosinone.
Team News
As they strive to break into the top six, Frosinone has encountered relatively few injury issues, although they might be fatigued after their recent Thursday match.
With Florian Grillitsch the only player confirmed out, Alvini may opt to make several changes to refresh his starting XI.
Even though Birligea scored two off the bench against Lecce, Raimondo is expected to continue leading the attack – generally supported by Romano Schmid, Giorgi Kvernadze, and Fares Ghedjemis.
Torino has enjoyed two extra days of rest, but pivotal midfielder Rolando Mandragora will not recover in time; veteran defender Ricardo Rodriguez is also sidelined.
Abate might see Niccolo Fortini return from a muscular issue, but fellow winger Alessio Cacciamani suffered a shoulder injury against Como.
After his opening goal in midweek, Che Adams is set to partner Giovanni Simeone in attack – both players have netted twice in their last three matches.
Frosinone probable starting XI:
Palmisani; Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Masini, Calo; Ghedjemis, Schmid, Kvernadze; Raymond
Torino probable starting XI:
Perri; Comuzzo, Ismajli, Coco; Belghali, Fitz-Jim, Braganca, Patterson; Vlasic; Adams, Simeon
Once regarded as relegation candidates back in August, Frosinone has rapidly transformed into a team that opponents fear, consistently scoring goals past several teams.
Meanwhile, after a disappointing 2025-26 season, Torino is demonstrating signs of progress under new manager Abate – and they have had two additional days to recover.
