Valencia is set to return to Mestalla for their second consecutive home match, aiming to secure their first victory of the 2026-27 LaLiga campaign as Real Betis visit on Tuesday evening.

Carlos Corberan’s squad began their season with a goalless draw and will be keen to capitalize on their chances this time, while Manuel Pellegrini’s team comes in after a successful opening match and will aim for consecutive away wins.

Match overview

Valencia kicked off their LaLiga journey with a scoreless draw against Celta de Vigo on Saturday—a result that, while not a complete disaster, was disappointing due to the clear opportunities that Corberan’s team couldn’t convert.

This result came after a pre-season where Valencia did not manage to win their last three fixtures, and with ongoing uncertainties regarding their finishing ability, Tuesday’s home encounter presents an early chance to establish a positive rhythm for the season.

Last season, Valencia secured 13 wins, 10 draws, and 15 losses from their 38 league games, finishing ninth in the standings with 49 points. With Los Che concluding the previous season just two points shy of a European spot, there is sincere optimism within the club that a bid for continental competition is achievable this year.

The Mestalla has proven to be a challenging venue for the visitors from Tuesday, with Valencia winning eight out of their last 15 home league matches against the Andalusian side, suffering only four defeats.

Real Betis, on the other hand, started the new season impressively, securing a 1-0 win against Real Sociedad at the Estadio de La Cartuja on Friday, thanks to a goal from Rodrigo Riquelme in the 63rd minute.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team is now set to make their first away journey of the season following that initial success, and having secured Champions League football last season by finishing fifth, Betis will be looking for another strong performance in the league, aiming for a top-five finish as a minimum requirement.

This summer, the Andalusians have been active in the transfer market, bringing in Facundo Bernal, Fran Garcia, and Troy Parrott, the Republic of Ireland striker joining from AZ Alkmaar to strengthen their attacking options.

In their last five encounters, Betis has won two times against Valencia, with one victory for the hosts and two matches resulting in draws.

Team News

Sergi Canos is unavailable for Valencia due to a cruciate ligament injury he sustained in April and will not participate in Tuesday’s fixture.

Alberto Mari, Jose Copete, and Diego Lopez are also out due to injuries.

Justin De Haas, who debuted against Celta de Vigo, was substituted at halftime after receiving an early booking along with an injury, and he is anticipated to be sidelined for at least a week.

Luis Rioja has returned to training and might be considered by Corberan, but Dimitri Foulquier continues his individual rehabilitation and is not expected to be included.

For Betis, Diego Conde and Aitor Ruibal are both sidelined with shoulder and meniscus injuries, respectively, while Ismael Barea is recovering from an ACL injury.

Giovanni Lo Celso remains out with a muscle issue, and Gonzalo Petit is also not available due to a thigh problem, while Abde Ezzalzouli is missing due to a knee injury.

Fran Garcia and Facundo Bernal made their debuts against Real Sociedad and are likely to retain their starting roles, while Troy Parrott may make his first appearance for the club from the substitutes’ bench.

Valencia probable starting XI:

Dimitriexi; Vazquez, Tarrega, Diakhaby, Gaya; Ugrinic, Guerra, Rodriguez; Pepelu; Sato, Umar

Real Betis probable starting XI:

Valles; Garcia, Nathan, Bartra, Bellerin; Roca, Bernal, Fornals; Riquelme, Hernandez, Anthony

Betis has only lost once in their last five encounters with Valencia, and given the hosts’ lackluster performance on the opening day, it seems unlikely that this streak will come to an end.

Corberan’s side created chances but struggled to convert against Celta de Vigo, and the Betis defence will pose a considerable challenge for a Valencia side still searching for their finishing touch, suggesting that a draw is the most probable outcome on Tuesday evening.
