Strasbourg vs Reims – News and Probable Lineups

Strasbourg will host Reims at the Stade de la Meinau in Alsace on Tuesday, marking their second trip to the Coupe de França quarter-finals in three seasons.

The team, known as Le Racing, secured their spot in the last eight with a strong 3-1 victory over Mônaco in early February, while Reims progressed with a 3-0 win against Le Mans.

Match overview

In single-elimination matches, Strasbourg has excelled, scoring a total of 11 goals across three Coupe de França encounters this season.

This stands in sharp contrast to their Ligue 1 performance, where they have struggled to score in over a dozen matches.

Gary O’Neil’s squad heads into this fixture unbeaten in 12 of their last 14 competitive matches, suffering only one loss at home during this period (2-1 against Paris Saint-Germain).

A victory on Tuesday would secure them a place in the Coupe de França semi-finals for the first time since they clinched the title for the third time in 2001.

Since February 2018, they have not been eliminated by a lower-division team in this tournament, when FC Chambly defeated them 1-0 at this stage.

The Alsace side has claimed victory in both their home games in the Coupe de França this season but has only won one quarter-final match at home in Alsace this century, overcoming Lyon 3-1 on the path to their 2001 title.

For the second consecutive season, Reims finds themselves among the final eight contenders for the Coupe de França.

Head coach Karel Geraerts has guided this team to compete for promotion back into the top-flight, currently sitting third in the Ligue 2 standings, just a point behind Saint-Etienne for an automatic promotion spot in Ligue 1 next season.

The majority of their five tournament victories this season have been secured away from home, with only one goal conceded during that run.

The Champagne club is undefeated in 12 of their last 13 away games across all competitions, managing to keep a clean sheet in six of those seven recent matches.

In their last eight Coupe de França quarter-finals, Reims has only experienced one defeat within regulation time, but they have lost two of the last three such matches.

Les rouges et blancs have bested Strasbourg in two out of three of their elimination encounters, including their first Coupe de França clash against them in the Champagne region in 1963 (1-0).

Team News

Strasbourg is likely to be without Emanuel Emegha due to a muscle strain, and Sam Amo-Ameyaw’s participation is questionable due to an injury.

Martial Godo opened the scoring against Mônaco after seven minutes in their round of 16 matchup, while Julio Enciso contributed two goals in the second half to secure the win.

Reims will miss Joseph Okumu, who is recovering from torn knee ligaments, and Yaya Fofana is doubtful with a shin injury.

Theo Leoni found the net twice against Le Mans, with Yassine Benhattab also contributing to their impressive victory in early February.

Strasbourg probable starting XI:

Penders; God, Hogsberg, Doukoure, Chilwell; Barco, El Mourabet; Moreira, Amougou, Enciso; Pineapple

Reims probable starting XI:

Olliero; Sekine, Kone, Akieme, Busi; Patrick, Gbane, Leoni; Benhattab, Bojang, Nakamura

Reims has found it challenging to score in Ligue 2 of late, and they may struggle against a well-rounded team like Strasbourg.
