Como vs Inter Milan – News and Probable Lineups

Currently heading towards winning the Scudetto, Inter de Milão will pursue a rare domestic double this Tuesday as they take on Como in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

The match is set to kick off at Stadio Sinigaglia, with the aggregate winner of this two-legged contest facing either Lazio or Atalanta in the season finale.

Match overview

Despite recent setbacks in the Champions League after their disappointing defeat in the 2025 final, losing to Bodo/Glimt during this year’s knockout stage, Inter still have significant goals to pursue.

Inter’s only domestic double was achieved back in 2006, followed by their celebrated treble under Jose Mourinho four years later. They aim to replicate that success this May.

Unbeaten in their last 15 Serie A matches, winning the last eight, Inter has consolidated their lead at the top while others have faltered.

Under the management of Cristian Chivu, the high-scoring side kept their distance from the contenders by defeating Genoa over the weekend, bouncing back immediately from their disappointing European elimination against Bodo.

This season’s standout player, Federico Dimarco, opened the scoring at San Siro with an impressive angled finish, followed by Hakan Calhanoglu securing the win with a penalty.

With the Scudetto nearly guaranteed, Inter now redirects their focus to the Coppa Italia, having previously eliminated Venezia and Torino to reach the final stages.

As nine-time champions of the competition, most recently winning in 2023, the Nerazzurri were eliminated by city rivals AC Milan at the semi-final stage last year, but they are determined to reach Rome this season.

Compared to their illustrious local rivals, Como has a far less grand history, but they are currently experiencing their best season to date.

Just two years after their return to Italy’s top division, the ambitious Lariani have emerged as contenders for European competition, aided by their recent consecutive victories.

After achieving a double over the once-mighty Juventus – defeating them 2-0 for the second time this season – they also overcame Lecce, who are struggling at the bottom of the table, last Saturday.

Tasos Douvikas quickly equalized for Como after going a goal down, and further strikes from Jesus Rodriguez and Marc-Oliver Kempf sealed the victory.

Ambitiously targeting a top-four finish, Como is also vying for their first Coppa Italia title, having navigated a long route to reach this season’s semi-finals.

After knocking out Sudtirol and Sassuolo in the initial rounds, they won away at Fiorentina, which set the stage for a challenging quarter-final tie against reigning Serie A champions Napoli.

Securing their first cup semi-final in 40 years, the Biancoblu triumphed in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 7-6, with Jean Butez making a critical save against Stanislav Lobotka’s penalty.

The highly-regarded coach Cesc Fabregas – whom Inter attempted to sign last summer – adopts a possession-focused strategy, which may lead them to challenge their Lombardy counterparts, despite a 4-0 loss at San Siro in December.

Team News

Inter’s captain and Serie A’s leading scorer, Lautaro Martinez, remains out due to a calf injury, which leaves Chivu to select two from Françasco Pio Esposito, Marcus Thuram, and Ange-Yoan Bonny for his attacking lineup.

Key defender Alessandro Bastoni has returned from suspension and could take the place of Carlos Augusto in the team’s back three.

Cup goalkeeper Josep Martinez may replace veteran Yann Sommer, while Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries are both pushing for a starting spot after regaining their fitness.

Dimarco recently notched his sixth goal of the season – alongside eight assists in his last six league matches – while Nico Paz is the creative force for Como.

The Argentine forward boasts 15 goal contributions in Serie A, although he missed the recent victory over Juventus due to suspension and started on the bench against Lecce.

Injury concerns persist for Martin Baturina (ankle) and Jayden Addai (Achilles), but Assane Diao made his return on Saturday after several months of absence.

Como probable starting XI:

Butez; Smolcic, Ramon, Carlos, Valle; Perrone, Da Cunha; Vojvoda, Paz, Rodriguez; Douvikas

Inter Milan probable starting XI:

Martinez; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Henrique, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Esposito

All three encounters since Como’s promotion to Serie A have gone in favor of Inter, with an aggregate score of 8-0; however, this matchup is expected to be much tighter.

Inter has claimed 11 victories out of 13 away league fixtures, conceding just nine goals, suggesting they could achieve a first-leg draw before both teams meet again in Milan at the end of April.
