Inter Miami is set to commence their three-match MLS homestand this Saturday as they face Toronto at Nu Stadium on matchday 21 of the current season for both teams.
This past week, the Herons maintained their second-place position in the Eastern Conference despite a 2-2 draw against the Philadelphia Union, while Toronto managed to equalize for a 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC, pushing them up to 11th place.
Match overview
Despite another slow start, conceding a goal just 11 minutes in on Wednesday, Inter Miami bounced back, netting twice before the half-hour mark only to be leveled in the second half.
The draw, combined with a late victory for Nashville SC, has left the defending MLS Cup champions trailing seven points behind the Boys in Gold in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.
This Saturday, Miami will aim to break a four-match winless streak across all competitions and end a two-game competitive home losing streak simultaneously.
In 2026 thus far, Angel Guillermo Hoyos has seen his squad recover to claim points in four home matches domestically after conceding first, amassing eight points in those cases.
While they lead the league in goals scored (48), the Herons have had difficulty closing out matches, ranking first in MLS for missed big chances (49) and dropping nine points while leading at halftime during the regular season.
Miami remains undefeated at home against Toronto, having won six of their last seven encounters in Fort Lauderdale, though this Saturday will mark their first meeting at Nu Stadium.
Wins have been hard to come by for Toronto, but they have certainly fought back in several matches to keep themselves in contention for the post-season.
As they head into this weekend, Robin Fraser’s side is just three points shy of the final playoff position in the East, acquiring 10 points after being scored upon first in this competition.
Despite winning only once in their last 14 league matches, the Reds have secured points in five of their last six outings and could extend their unbeaten streak to four games in the league this weekend.
Currently, they share the title for the fewest away wins in the Eastern Conference this season (three), but a victory on Saturday would surpass their total of three from the regular season in 2025.
Their defensive performance has shown improvement on the road recently, with TFC allowing one goal or fewer in three out of their last four MLS away matches and managing two clean sheets.
A lack of creativity could be the key factor separating them from earning maximum points, as this squad has generated the third-fewest big chances in the league this year.
Team News
Micael may not feature in this match for Inter Miami due to an ankle issue, while Matteo Silvetti is struggling with a shoulder injury, German Berterame has a nose ailment, and Tadeo Allende is questionable due to a knee problem.
Yannick Bright will be sidelined after his red card in stoppage time on Wednesday, whereas Rodrigo De Paul is set to return following his yellow card suspension.
Both Daniel Pinter and Lionel Messi found the back of the net five minutes apart earlier this week, with the club captain and reigning league MVP now tallying 13 goals in the regular season.
For Toronto, Nelson Palcio is doubtful this weekend as he is recovering from a previous injury, Jonathan Osorio has a knee concern, and Deandre Kerr may be a question mark due to a lower body issue.
Walker Zimmerman will miss this clash after receiving a straight red card early in the second half against Charlotte, while Djordje Mihailovic is eligible to come back from his suspension.
Markus Cimermancic, Daniel Salloi, and Niklas Dorsch all scored for the Reds on matchday 20, with Dorsch netting an equalizer in the 90th minute.
Inter Miami probable starting XI:
St. Claire; Fray, Lujan, Falcon, Allen; De Paul, Casemiro, Segovia; Messi, Suarez, Pinter
Toronto probable starting XI:
Gavran; Laryea, Kuscevic, Stefanovic, Pereira; Coello, Dorsch, Cimermancic; Corbeanu, Sargent, Salloi
The Reds have often found themselves on the back foot during away matches, and against a Miami side desperate for points, with all their quality, we anticipate the visitors may be able to find a way through their defense.
