Braga vs Estrela Amadora – News and Probable Lineups

Estrela Amadora will visit the Estadio Municipal de Braga on Saturday evening, aiming to secure their survival in the Primeira Liga as they face a Braga team with little at stake.

The visiting side is merely one point above the automatic relegation zone as they enter the final match of the season, with a better goal difference keeping them out of the playoff spot currently held by Casa Pia.

Match overview

With their survival hanging in the balance, Estrela Amadora goes into this decisive fixture under significant pressure, hoping to maintain their top-flight status for a fourth consecutive season after gaining promotion in 2022-23.

The Tricolores have faced a challenging season, managing to win just six of their 33 league matches while suffering 16 defeats, and they reach the last matchday level on 29 points with Casa Pia.

The only thing separating the two teams is goal difference, with Estrela holding an eight-goal lead that may prove crucial — though it would take a notable turnaround for Casa Pia to overcome that margin, Joao Nuno’s squad understands that they must at least match their rivals’ outcome to ensure safety.

However, that task appears daunting, as Casa Pia is set to face 13th-placed Rio Ave at home, while Estrela has the tougher challenge of traveling to Braga, arguably making this the more difficult fixture of the two.

Recent performance offers little optimism for Estrela, who have not secured a win in their last six league games, although a goalless draw against Famalicao ended a troubling five-match losing streak.

Now, they will aim to break that six-match winless run against a Braga side they have not beaten in eight competitive encounters since 2008, where they have drawn four times and lost four times — in league meetings specifically, the drought extends even further to 1999, with Braga winning nine times and the remaining nine matches ending in draws over 18 fixtures.

The home team certainly boasts enough quality to extend that streak, although they arrive in less-than-ideal form, with Braga winless in their last three matches across all competitions, recording two draws and one loss. Additionally, they have not won any of their last three league matches.

Part of this streak included a heartbreaking exit from the Europa League semi-finals against SC Freiburg, where a 3-1 defeat in the second leg overturned the 2-1 advantage they had from the first leg.

On the domestic front, a surprising 2-1 loss to Santa Clara was followed by a 1-1 draw at home against Estoril Praia, and then a dramatic 2-2 draw against Benfica, where Braga was close to victory before conceding a penalty in stoppage time.

Nonetheless, these results have not impacted Braga’s league standing, with the Archbishops assured of finishing fourth with 58 points, well ahead of Famalicao while trailing third-placed Benfica, thus ensuring qualification for next season’s Conference League.

Team News

Braga continues to cope with several injury problems, with Diego Rodrigues, Adrian Barisic, and Sikou Niakate all unavailable.

Bright Arrey-Mbi and Florian Grillitsch also remain out due to injury, while Vitor Carvalho is serving a suspension due to accumulated yellow cards.

Club captain Ricardo Horta has encountered a setback in his recovery and remains doubtful, and Leonardo Lelo is also a concern after sustaining an injury in the draw against Benfica.

Estrela also faces a crucial absence, with striker Rodrigo Pinho suspended due to yellow-card accumulation.

The visitors will additionally be without Issiar Drame, who has been sidelined since suffering a serious injury in September 2025, while Nigerian forward Mathew Gbomadu is still out with a long-term issue.

With Pinho unavailable, Sydney van Hooijdonk may be offered a starting position in attack as he looks to add to his lone league goal this season and possibly help Estrela secure safety.

Braga probable starting XI:

Hornicek; Lagerbielke, Oliveira, Lelo; Martinez, Moutinho, Tiknaz, Gorby, V Gomez; Navarro, Victor

Estrela Amadora probable starting XI:

Ribeiro; Langa, Patrick, Lekovic, Encada; Cabral, Moreira, Sola; Stoica, Van Hooijdonk, Marcus

Braga might have little to fight for in this match, but they will still strive to conclude the season on a high note in front of their fans.

Conversely, Estrela will arrive with a greater sense of urgency and determination given the stakes. However, their difficulties in attack and poor recent form may hinder their chances of securing maximum points. A draw appears to be the most probable outcome.
