Angers vs Strasbourg – News and Probable Lineups

Strasbourg aims to keep their slim prospects of European qualification alive as they make their way to Stade Raymond Kopa this Sunday to face Angers.

Following a 3-1 loss to Auxerre last week, Les Scoistes fell to 13th in the league standings, while Strasbourg dropped to eighth after their 2-1 defeat to Toulouse.

Match overview

With their place in Ligue 1 for next season already secured, Angers has been playing with a laid-back attitude, as if there’s little at stake.

Under the guidance of Alexandre Dujeux, the team has dropped points in seven straight top-tier matches, and could equal their longest losing streak of the season this weekend (three matches).

This season, the squad has allowed a goal or fewer in 11 of their league fixtures but has conceded two or more in seven matches this year.

Angers has managed to earn points in two of their last three home fixtures in Ligue 1, but face the possibility of consecutive defeats at Stade Raymond Kopa for the second time in 2026 on Saturday.

Winning one of their last two league matches would help them exceed their points tally from the last season (36).

In two of their last three competitive encounters against Strasbourg, Angers has come out on top, including a 2-1 victory in their most recent home game last season.

Although mathematically feasible, Strasbourg’s prospects for securing a spot in Europe next season appear to be dwindling.

Gary O’Neil has managed to lead his team to victories in three of their last four Ligue 1 matches, yet they are still eight points adrift of Mônaco for a Conference League spot.

Failing to achieve maximum points from their remaining fixtures would likely result in them finishing outside of European positions for the 2025-26 season, and they must win all remaining matches to match their previous season’s domestic victories (16).

Strasbourg is currently four points shy of reaching the 50-point milestone for the second consecutive season, with this team having picked up points in their last four away games in the league.

In four of their last five league outings on the road, Strasbourg has conceded the opening goal, yet managed to rally back to avoid defeat, claiming victory in their last two encounters.

This Sunday, the Alsace club has the chance to win for the fourth time in their last five trips to Stade Raymond Kopa, with their last victory there occurring in 2022 (3-2).

Team News

Marius Courcoul’s status is uncertain due to a knee issue, Harouna Djibirin is dealing with an ankle injury, Yassin Belkhdim is a doubt due to a forearm injury, and Amine Sbai is set to be suspended for Angers this weekend.

Goduine Koyalipou scored from the penalty spot in the dying moments of their loss to Auxerre, marking his first goal of the campaign while on loan from Lens.

On the other hand, Strasbourg is facing setbacks with their top goalscorer Joaquin Panichelli sidelined due to a ruptured cruciate ligament, Emmanuel Emegha has a leg problem, Guele Doue is a doubt due to the flu, and Valentin Barco and Aaron Anselmino are both likely to miss out due to injuries.

Last Sunday, Sam Amo-Ameyaw netted the opening goal, but his second goal of the Ligue 1 season was insufficient to secure points against Toulouse.

Angers probable starting XI:

Coffee; Louer, Camara, Lefort, Ekomie; van den Boomen, Belkebla; Mouton, Capelle, Koyalipou; Peter

Strasbourg probable starting XI:

Penders; Omobamidele, Hogsberg, Doukoure, Oyedele; Amo-Ameyaw, El Mourabet, Ouattara, Enciso; Nanasi, Moreira

It seems that Angers are treating this as an end-of-season break, while Strasbourg is expected to show significantly more urgency and determination to secure a favorable outcome this weekend.
