Alanyaspor vs. Genclerbirligi – News and Probable Lineups
After experiencing differing outcomes in their cup fixtures last week, Alanyaspor and Genclerbirligi are set to resume league play in round 25 of the Turkish Super Lig this Monday.
With only a third of the season remaining, the two teams find themselves just a couple of points apart in the lower half of the standings, and a defeat at the Bahcesehir Okullari Stadium may raise their concerns about relegation.
Match overview
Alanyaspor started the Turkiye Kupasi with two victories and a draw but saw their unbeaten streak come to an end last Tuesday, suffering a 2-1 loss at home to Galatasaray during the second of their consecutive matchups.
Galatasaray took a two-goal lead into half time thanks to strikes from Baris Alper Yilmaz and the young talent Renato Nhaga, and despite a response from Steve Mounie in the 78th minute, the visitors held their ground to secure the win at the Bahcesehir Okullari Stadium.
Currently third in Group A of the cup, Alanyaspor trails second-placed Trabzonspor by two points in the race for the second knockout-stage qualifying position, but they will now focus on the league where they have faced back-to-back losses against Istanbul Basaksehir and Galatasaray in their latest outings.
Joao Pereira’s squad has struggled since the start of the new year, losing four of their seven league games, with their only win since then occurring on February 14, when they narrowly defeated Konyaspor 2-1 at home, thanks to goals from Ruan and Florent Hadergjonaj.
As Alanyaspor seeks to regain their form on Monday, they face a Genclerbirligi team they have not been able to beat in their last five meetings, having lost three and drawn two, with their last victory being a 1-0 win back in March 2018.
On the other hand, Genclerbirligi extended their impressive form in the Turkiye Kupasi last Thursday, achieving a solid 3-1 victory over TFF 2. Lig side Aliaga FK at the Aliaga Ataturk Stadium.
While Aliaga managed to keep the scoreline level until half time, Genclerbirligi stepped up their performance in the second half, with Samed Onur scoring twice around a strike from Yigit Hamza Aydar in the 59th minute, while Suat Kaya netted a late consolation for the hosts in the 92nd minute.
Genclerbirligi remains unbeaten in their four cup matches, earning 10 points from a possible 16, which leaves them just two points shy of the qualifying spots. Head coach Volkan Demirel will look to build on this result to turn their league form around, where they have struggled since the beginning of the year.
Similarly to Alanyaspor, the Ankara Ruzgari has not managed to secure a win in six of their seven Super Lig matches this calendar year, recording three losses and three draws, with their last three fixtures ending with two wins and one draw before the year closed out.
Currently holding 24 points from 24 matches, Genclerbirligi sits 12th in the Super Lig table, two points behind Alanyaspor and only four points clear of the relegation zone as the season heads into its final third.
Team News
Alanyaspor will be without the services of 25-year-old midfielder Yusuf Ozdemir, who has been suspended by the Turkish Football Federation due to a betting scandal.
Recently returning from a long-term cruciate ligament injury, Buluthan Bulut remained an unused substitute in the previous match against Galatasaray and could potentially feature on Monday.
Genclerbirligi has a longer list of absentees, with Nigerian midfielder Peter Etebo (muscle) and Turkish players Abdullah Sahindere (knee) and 21-year-old Emirhan Unal (knee) all sidelined.
Malian midfielder Moussa Kyabou has been out since sustaining a knee injury against Fenerbahce back in August 2025, while defender Ogulcan Ulgun is set to miss a fourth consecutive game due to a hamstring issue.
Moreover, French forward Franco Tongya is unavailable for the trip to the Bahcesehir Okullari Stadium as he is suspended following his yellow card against Kayserispor on March 1.
Alanyaspor probable starting XI:
Victor; Five, Small, Fourth; Hadergjonaj, Makouta, January, Keskin; Hwang, Elia, Mounie
Genclerbirligi probable starting XI:
Old; Pereira, Goutas, Zuzek, Thalisson; Dele-Bashiru; Canak, Gurpuz, Onur, Mimaroglu; Traore
Both Alanyaspor and Genclerbirligi will be optimistic about their chances on Monday, and with a loss having potentially serious implications for either side, a tightly contested match is anticipated at the Bahcesehir Okullari Stadium. However, the home advantage should give Pereira’s team a slight edge, and we anticipate they will end their five-game winless streak in this matchup.
