PSG x Le Mans - prediction, team news, lineups

Le Mans, who have just been promoted, make their way to Paris Saint-Germain for a Ligue 1 clash for the first time since 2009, hoping to cause an upset against the reigning champions at Parc des Princes.

Currently sitting in ninth place in the table after five matches, the newcomers find themselves just two points and three positions behind PSG, a scenario they likely did not foresee even at this early point in the season.

Match overview

Le Mans undeniably earned their reward for their offensive play in last month’s 2-1 win over Lorient.

After a streak of thrilling draws and a last-minute 3-2 loss to Rennes, Patrick Videira’s side clinched the Pays de la Loire club’s first top-flight victory since they defeated PSG in May 2010.

This victory was a fitting reward for their ability to catch their opponents off guard upon their return to the elite level, following their defeat to Rennes where they came back from a two-goal deficit, only for Djibril Sidibe to be sent off in the 68th minute, causing them to hold on till the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Now, they approach Saturday with the aim of achieving back-to-back Ligue 1 wins for the first time since beating Sochaux and Valenciennes in April 2009, but they must again overcome PSG to achieve that goal.

While Les Mucistes managed a slim 1-0 victory the last time these sides faced off in the top division, PSG has triumphed in the last three competitive encounters with scores of 2-0, 4-1, and 2-0, culminating in a combined score of 8-1 from those domestic cup matches in 2011, 2019, and 2025.

As it stands, Luis Enrique’s squad are heavy favourites to take down an opponent they have historically performed well against, aiming to avoid back-to-back Ligue 1 losses at home.

Mônaco handed PSG two of their three top-flight defeats at Parc des Princes in 2026, with the capital club’s other home results being far from reassuring.

Enrique’s side has struggled to capture consecutive home victories in Ligue 1 since they achieved seven wins from November to February but have found it difficult to achieve two in a row since then.

So far, they have only recorded three wins from seven home outings, and the defeat to Mônaco at the beginning of last month was not the best way to start their home campaign.

This shaky start to the season sees Les Parisiens five points behind league leaders Mônaco, although the two-time defending European champions have ample opportunity to recover as the season unfolds.

However, if they falter against an energized Le Mans team this weekend, they might fall further behind, as the promoted side’s fearless style could leave the defending champions exposed to an upset.

Team News

For PSG, Senny Mayulu is confirmed to be the only absentee this weekend, while Ferran Torres and Warren Zaire-Emery face late fitness tests due to injuries to their ankle and thigh, respectively.

Torres’s possible unavailability comes at a challenging time for the home side, as their key attackers have yet to find their stride in the league this season; thus, the new signing is left to bear the brunt: the 2026 World Cup winner has contributed to 50% of Parisian’s eight league goals, with Marquinhos unexpectedly netting three.

Ousmane Dembele has yet to find the net in Ligue 1 this season and has not scored since early April, marking a nine-match drought; however, Desire Doue scored and assisted França during their remarkable comeback 4-1 victory over Bélgica this week, which could provide the wide man with the confidence needed to rediscover his form this term.

Meanwhile, Adil Bourabaa has been in superb form for Le Mans, scoring three goals and providing two assists in five matches this season, positioned at the top of the charts for direct contributions alongside Lassine Sinayoko, Amine Gouiri, Kamori Doumbia, and Florian Thauvin.

However, the preparations for the promoted side have taken a significant hit, as Bourabaa is sidelined with an ankle injury that will keep him out for several weeks, considerably diminishing the away team’s attacking threat.

In addition to Bourabaa’s absence, Erwan Colas and Lucas Buades will be monitored prior to their journey this weekend.

In Bourabaa’s absence, Louis Mafouta, who has also scored three goals for the visitors, will need to step up and take on the attacking duties alongside Habib Diallo.

Paris Saint-Germain probable starting XI:

Safanov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Hernandez; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Akliouche, Kvaratskhelia, Doue

Le Mans probable starting XI:

Coach; Torrent, Yohou, Voyer; Bamba, Bretelle, Laura, Vercruysse, Larouci; Diallo, Mafouta

Despite their unique approach offering a different challenge, Le Mans were already positioned as underdogs against PSG.

Their chances of taking something from this fixture are significantly weakened in the absence of Bourabaa, which should detract from their potential in Paris this weekend.
