The upcoming match will see Liverpool Women facing off against Everton Women at Anfield on Sunday, with local bragging rights on the line.

The home side currently occupies seventh place in the Women’s Super League, while Everton trails them closely in fifth place, boasting a two-point advantage.

Match overview

Liverpool has started the 2026-27 season on a positive note, with just one loss in their opening four competitive matches.

The season commenced with a commanding 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, followed by a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

In their last fixture, the Reds appeared to be heading for another draw against Manchester City, but conceded two late goals, losing 4-2 to the reigning WSL Champions.

On a brighter note for Liverpool, they managed to turn the tables with a 4-2 win in their midweek Women’s League Cup match against Sunderland, featuring a brace from Marie Hobinger that helped the team recover from a 2-1 deficit.

With 11 goals scored in their initial four competitive encounters, the Reds will be confident about securing their first home league win against Everton since May 2019.

Although Liverpool has faced difficulties in their recent home derby matches, they can take heart from a 3-2 triumph in their last encounter at Goodison Park in March 2026.

Everton has bounced back from an opening day loss to Crystal Palace with two consecutive wins, maintaining clean sheets in both matches.

The Toffees overcame a Charlton Athletic side reduced to nine players with a narrow 1-0 victory, and last weekend they secured another 1-0 win in an away fixture against West Ham United.

An own goal in the dying moments of the match earned them all three points against the Hammers, keeping them one point off the top three and five points clear of the relegation zone at this early stage of the campaign.

Scott Phelan’s team continued their winning streak with a 2-0 triumph in their midweek Women’s League Cup clash against Birmingham City, thanks to goals from Zara Kramzar and Yuka Momiki.

Everton will be optimistic about extending their fine form into Sunday’s derby, considering they have emerged victorious in their last five WSL away fixtures, having recorded clean sheets in four of those games.

While they did not manage to keep a clean sheet in the previous season’s away league match, they did deliver a high-scoring performance, comfortably winning 4-1 against their local rivals.

Team News

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Lucy Parry, Zara Shaw, Anna Josendal, and Ceri Holland will be unavailable due to injuries.

Additionally, there are doubts regarding the fitness of Khiara Kheating, Mari Ward, and Kirsty McLean.

Zara Shaw has returned from international duty with England at the Under-20 World Cup and is available for selection after featuring in the win over Sunderland.

On the other hand, Everton will be without Karen Holmgaard and Inma Gabbaro, both of whom are recovering from long-term knee injuries.

Fitness concerns also surround Jutta Rantala and Noemie Mouchon, who have missed the first four matches of the season.

Kramzar and Momiki will be looking to keep their spots following their contributions in the League Cup win against Birmingham.

Liverpool Women probable starting XI:

Kirby; Kerr, Clark, Fish, Bernabe; Nagano, Ramos; Bergstrom, Kapocs, Endemann; Olsson

Everton Women probable starting XI:

Brosnan; Blundell, Layzell, Silcock, Kitagawa; Wheeler, Mace; Momiki, Kramzar, Vignola; McNamara

While Everton has found success in recent away fixtures against Liverpool, they may need to settle for a draw against a side that has only lost one out of four contests this season.
