Frosinone xLecce - prediction, team news, lineups

Having scored four times in consecutive matches, the high-scoring Frosinone will aim to continue their impressive start to the Serie A season as they host Lecce at Stadio Stirpe on Thursday.
With a five-point advantage over their opposition, the Canarini have exceeded all expectations since their elevation to the top flight, participating in an exciting eight-goal match last time out.

Match overview

Frosinone’s return to the top tier has begun with a bang, as they stood sixth in the standings leading up to the first midweek round of Serie A.

Massimiliano Alvini’s squad has suffered defeats only to Juventus and Napoli thus far, making their mark with a dynamic and attacking style of play.

Despite taking the lead within 30 seconds last weekend, the Canarini found themselves down 3-2 to Atalanta at half-time, ultimately securing a draw when Aleksa Terzic netted a late equalizer in a thrilling 4-4 encounter.

A standout in Serie B last season, opening scorer Giacomo Calo has recorded 17 shots and created 30 opportunities in Italy’s premier division, while star forward Antonio Raimondo is currently tied for the Capocannoniere lead.

Frosinone has accumulated 14 points thus far, with their 17 goals showcasing remarkable offensive prowess; with two more on Thursday, they would set a new record for any promoted club in the 21st century.

Now, with only two points dropped at home, they will aim for a fourth straight Serie A victory at Stadio Stirpe, something they have never achieved before.

This match will mark only the third encounter in the top division between Frosinone and Lecce, following their two meetings in the 2023-24 season, during which the Salentini won one and the other ended in a 1-1 draw at Stadio Stirpe.

Looking back further, Lecce has not lost in six matches against the Canarini, across Serie A, Serie B, and Serie C.

A great deal has changed since their last encounter in Italy’s third tier some 12 years ago, and the Salento club is currently enjoying a club-record fifth consecutive season at the highest level.

Lecce secured only six points from their first six fixtures of the season – and suffered an early exit from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Palermo – before convincingly defeating Udinese earlier this month.

However, Eusebio Di Françasco’s men were unable to follow that momentum with a win, losing 2-0 at home to Juventus last weekend.

Historically much stronger at the Via del Mare, Lecce has lately performed better on the road; they have achieved four wins in their last six Serie A away matches, matching their output from the previous 24 encounters.

Team News

In their quest for a top-half finish, Frosinone has faced relatively few injury issues, with only Florian Grillitsch definitively ruled out for Thursday’s match.

Alvini should have all other players available, potentially naming an unchanged starting XI, with Raimondo spearheading the attack.

The Bologna-owned forward typically gets support from Romano Schmid – who netted twice against Atalanta – alongside creative wingers Giorgi Kvernadze and Fares Ghedjemis.

On the other hand, the visitors will travel without Kialonda Gaspar, who received a red card at the end of Sunday’s loss to Juventus and is suspended.

Jamil Siebert, who scored Lecce’s third goal in their last away fixture, is expected to slot into the defense, taking over for Gaspar alongside key defender Tiago Gabriel, assuming the latter recovers from a bruised knee.

Santiago Pierotti recently suffered an ankle fracture, joining midfielders Lassana Coulibaly, Ivan Ilic, and Medon Berisha on the injured list.

Frosinone probable starting XI:

Palmisani; Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Masini, Calo; Ghedjemis, Schmid, Kvernadze; Raymond

Lecce probable starting XI:

Falcone; Veiga, Gabriel, Siebert, Gallo; News, Mother, Lazy; N’Dri, Geubbels, Monteiro

After going ahead within a minute last weekend, Frosinone has managed to score nine goals in the opening 30 minutes this season – the highest tally in Serie A. In contrast, Lecce has struggled, surrendering a league-high eight goals in the same timeframe.

Thus, the hosts have a chance to seize an early lead before securing all three points and continuing their astonishing start to the campaign.
