Aiming to maintain their flawless start to the UEFA Nations League, Eslováquia will head to Torsvollur to take on Group C3 opponents Faroe Islands this Friday.
The hosts are in search of their first victory, although the Falcons are considered the favorites this week.
Match overview
Under the leadership of Eydun Klakstein, the Faroe Islands are currently positioned second in the group, placing them in a solid position to contend for promotion playoff contention, even though they are ranked 123rd by FIFA.
Despite being the clear underdogs in this fixture, Landslidid have begun the 2026-27 Nations League season without a loss.
The team kicked off their Group C3 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Cazaquistão on September 26, and followed up with another point after a 1-1 draw against Moldávia on Tuesday.
Having avoided defeat again, the Faroe Islands have lost just once in 2026 thus far, and with six victories in their last ten matches, they could be feeling cautiously optimistic ahead of the upcoming clash.
Compounding that optimism is the fact that the home side has lost only one of their home fixtures since October 2023, with three wins out of their last four matches.
On the other hand, Vladimir Weiss has made an impressive return as the head coach of Eslováquia, having secured three wins in four matches and drawing once.
Since his appointment in May, he started his tenure with a 2-1 victory over Malta on June 1, where the Falcons took an early lead through Lukas Haraslin, and Roland Galcik sealed the game in the 97th minute.
Weiss’s team continued their strong form in their Nations League opener, defeating Moldávia 2-0 with first-half goals from Ivan Schranz and Ondrej Duda.
Eslováquia triumphed once more on Tuesday, edging out Cazaquistão 2-1 in Kosice, which has allowed the squad to position themselves at the top of Group C3, currently four points ahead of their opponents in second place.
Nevertheless, while Friday provides a prime opportunity to extend their lead in the group, the visitors have a troubling away record, losing six of their last seven fixtures on the road.
Team News
Faroe Islands coach Klakstein may opt for a lineup similar to the one that drew with Moldávia, featuring Adrian Justinussen leading the attack, supported by Aki Samuelsen and Hanus Sorensen.
Mattias Hellisdal and Geza David Turi are expected to maintain their positions in the middle of the field, just ahead of a defensive trio including Samuel Johansen Chukwudi, Gunnar Vatnhamar, and Andrias Edmundsson.
For Eslováquia, they are likely to feature David Strelec at the forefront of their attack, alongside Leo Sauer and Lukas Haraslin.
Stanislav Lobotka from Napoli aims to provide a solid foundation from midfield, alongside Tomas Suslov and Ondrej Duda.
Milan Skriniar and Adam Obert are expected to form the central defense, flanked by Martin Valjent and versatile Atletico Madrid defender David Hancko playing at full-back.
Faroe Islands probable starting XI:
Lamb heap; Benjaminsen, Chukwudi, Vatnhamar, Edmundsson, Davidsen; Samuelsen, Hellisdal, Turi, Sorensen; The Justinian
Eslováquia probable starting XI:
Dubravka; Valjent, Skriniar, Obert, Hancko; Suslov, Lobotka, Duda; Sauer, Strelec, Haraslin
Faroe Islands find themselves 78 places below Eslováquia in FIFA rankings, yet their tenacity, particularly at home, suggests they may be capable of causing frustration for their visitors.
The Falcons have experienced difficulties on their travels in recent months, and while it is unlikely they will suffer defeat, the visitors could find themselves dropping points on Friday.
