Barcelona will be looking to secure their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions as they continue their La Liga journey at home against Getafe on Saturday.
Head coach Hansi Flick’s team currently sits at the top of the La Liga standings with 21 points, while Getafe is in 11th place, having garnered eight points from their first seven matches of the 2026-27 season.
Match overview
This season, Barcelona has been flawless so far, continuing to establish themselves as the premier team in La Liga once more; they are also expected to be contenders in the Champions League this year.
Flick’s squad has recorded seven victories in their seven league fixtures this season, netting 31 goals while conceding just seven. They are five points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and six ahead of fourth-placed Real Madrid, leading the La Liga table with 21 points.
Barcelona entered the international break in September/October having achieved a 3-1 victory over Sevilla, winning five matches in September, which included a 5-1 triumph against Feyenoord in their opening Champions League group stage match.
Next week, the Catalan club will return to European competition, traveling to Turkiye to face Galatasaray, followed by a league match against Real Betis and a Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, leading up to the El Clasico against Real Madrid in La Liga.
Historically, Barcelona has dominated their encounters with Getafe, winning 32 and only losing four out of their last 46 matches in all competitions, including a 3-0 victory for Flick’s side in the corresponding fixture last season.
Getafe’s last victory over Barcelona came in October 2020, and they have yet to defeat the Catalan giants on the road, making Saturday’s fixture potentially historic.
This season, Getafe has managed to secure two wins, two draws, and three losses from their seven league matches, accumulating a total of eight points to place them in 11th position in the table.
Scoring has been a challenge for the Deep Blue Ones, with only four goals this season, but they have been relatively solid defensively, conceding the same number of goals as Barcelona in La Liga (seven).
Jose Bordalas’ team went into the international break following a narrow 1-0 victory against Malaga, which marked their first win since August 23.
After finishing seventh in La Liga last season, Getafe will participate in the Conference League this term, with their group stage commencing next week.
Team News
Head coach Flick faces a significant decision regarding Raphinha, who sustained a thigh injury while playing for Brasil during the international window.
Fortunately, Raphinha has avoided serious injury and is anticipated to be included in the squad; nonetheless, it may not be surprising if he begins on the bench to mitigate any potential risks.
This situation could open a place in the false nine role for Dani Olmo.
Roony Bardghji (knee) and Andreas Christensen (thigh) are both sidelined, but Joan Garcia and Eric Garcia are expected to be fit to participate right from the start.
For Getafe, Juanmi (muscle) and Christantus Uche (knee) will miss out, while Abdel Abqar (muscle) and Kiko Femenia (hamstring) have late fitness tests ahead of the match.
Mario Martin was unavailable in the match against Malaga due to suspension, but he is now eligible to return to the starting lineup.
Enes Unal has netted three goals this season and is likely to be a key figure in Getafe’s attacking setup.
Barcelona probable starting XI:
J Garcia; E Garcia, Cubarsi, Martin, Espart; Fermin, Rhodri, Pedri; Yamal, Olmo, Gordon
Getafe probable starting XI:
Soria; Garcia, Djene, Romero, Mojica; Martin, Terrats, Gudelj, Francho, Satriano; Unal
Currently, backing Barcelona seems challenging due to their impressive quality; meanwhile, Getafe has found it tough to score this season, suggesting that Flick’s squad is poised to maintain their winning streak on Saturday.
