Real Oviedo vs. Getafe – News and Probable Lineups

Real Oviedo will strive to keep their slim chances of survival alive as they take on Getafe at home this Sunday evening in La Liga.

The hosts currently sit at the bottom of the La Liga standings, trailing 17th-placed Sevilla by 11 points, while Getafe occupies seventh place and is aiming for European qualification in the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Match overview

It’s undeniable that Oviedo has found this season challenging since their return to the top flight, managing only six wins, 10 draws, and 18 defeats from 34 outings, leaving them at the foot of the table with 28 points, 11 points adrift of safety with just four matches remaining.

Oviedo’s relegation could potentially be confirmed this weekend, coinciding with Sevilla’s match against Espanyol on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues secured victories in three out of four league encounters from March 14 to April 12, sparking hope among their fans for an escape, but having only collected a single point from their last three games has dashed any realistic expectations of avoiding relegation.

Guillermo Almada’s team will come into this match following a 3-0 loss to Real Betis, and they were defeated 2-1 by Elche in their previous home fixture.

Oviedo has the poorest home record in La Liga this season, earning just 18 points from 17 matches, whereas Getafe boasts the sixth-best away record in Spain’s top division this term.

On the other hand, Getafe will enter this match having suffered consecutive defeats to Barcelona and Rayo Vallecano, resulting in three losses from their last four La Liga games.

Despite this, a respectable season has positioned Jose Bordalas’ side in seventh in the table, tied on points with eighth-placed Athletic Bilbao and just three points behind Celta Vigo, who sit in sixth.

There remains a possibility for Getafe to qualify for the Europa League late in the season, while securing a spot in the Conference League would also be seen as a significant achievement for the Deep Blue Ones.

However, Oviedo managed to win 2-1 in their last clash at Estadio Carlos Tartiere, which took place in February 2017 during their time in the Segunda Division.

Team News

Oviedo will be unable to call upon Leander Dendoncker due to an injury, while Brandon Domingues and Ovie Ejaria will both undergo late fitness tests.

Federico Vinas has had a notable season for the struggling side, scoring nine goals, and the 27-year-old is expected to lead the attack on Sunday.

Additionally, Eric Bailly is likely to feature in the heart of the Oviedo defence, with Santi Cazorla also hoping for some involvement during the match.

As for Getafe, Martin Satriano is a doubt, but the visitors will be boosted by the returns of Zaid Romero and Mario Martin, who are available again after serving suspensions.

The capital side faced challenges in the attacking third against Rayo Vallecano last time out, so Adrian Liso may be positioned in a more offensive role here.

The inclusion of Martin in the squad and potentially in the starting XI could serve as a direct substitute for Satriano, depending on how the forward fares in his late fitness test ahead of the match.

Real Oviedo probable starting XI:

Escandell; Vidal, Bailly, Costas, Lopez; Colombatto, Sibo; Chaira, Reina, Fernandez; Vinas

Getafe probable starting XI:

Soria; Dakonam, Duarte, Romero; Femenia, Martin, Arambarri, Iglesias; Milla; Liso, Vazquez

It is anticipated that Real Oviedo’s return to the Segunda Division will be confirmed this weekend, while Getafe may secure a crucial victory in their pursuit of European qualification.
