Moreirense vs. Estrela Amadora – News and Probable Lineups
Estrela Amadora is aiming to break their streak of four consecutive losses and distance themselves from the relegation zone as they take on Moreirense at Parque Joaquim de Almeida Freitas on Saturday for round 32 of the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
With a win eluding them in the last four encounters since November 2023, Os Verdes e Brancos will look to secure a victory over Estrela and achieve back-to-back home wins.
Match overview
Moreirense suffered another setback last Saturday, dropping three points in their pursuit of a top-half finish after being dominated by Benfica in a 4-1 loss at Estadio da Luz.
Leandro Barreiro and Richard Rios scored before Diogo Martin Travassos equalized in the 26th minute, giving Benfica a first-half advantage, and later, substitute Franjo Ivanovic added a late double to conclude a commanding performance from the team.
This occurred just five days after a 1-0 victory over Estoril Praia at Parque de Jogo Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas, which ended Moreirense’s streak of seven league matches without a victory.
Starting the year brightly with three wins from their first four fixtures, Vasco Costa’s squad has faced challenges during the latter stages of the season, managing only two victories in their last 12 outings while losing seven and drawing three.
Moreirense has accumulated 39 points from their 31 Primeira Liga matches, placing them eighth in the standings, two points ahead of 10th-placed Estoril Praia. A win this weekend could see them level on points with seventh-placed Vitoria de Guimaraes.
In contrast, Estrela Amadora faced further difficulties in their relegation battle last Sunday, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat against league leaders Porto at Estadio Jose Gomes.
Turkish striker Deniz Gul found the net twice in the first half, putting Porto ahead as they went into halftime. Although the hosts managed to score through Jovane Cabral in the 79th minute, the Dragoes held firm to secure the win and extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
As a result, Estrela Amadora has lost their last four matches, conceding six goals while managing to score only once in that span, along with just a single victory from their last 10 matches since mid-February, placing their top-flight survival at risk.
Joao Nuno’s side is currently only two points above the relegation playoff position as they head into the final three fixtures and could match Nacional on 31 points with a win in Minho.
However, their away form leaves much to be desired, as Estrela has not won any of their seven away games since the start of the year, garnering merely two points from the possible 21 since a 3-2 win over Famalicao on December 27.
Team News
Moreirense continues to be without the defensive pair of Alvaro Martinez and 25-year-old Dinis Pinto, who are recovering from muscle and shoulder injuries, respectively.
Joining them on the injury list is Vasco Sousa, who is also recuperating from a leg injury, while 22-year-old Michel has been sidelined since January due to a shoulder problem.
Estrela will also miss Malian defender Issiar Drame, who is still out following a significant injury sustained back in September 2025.
Nigerian striker Mathew Gbomadu has yet to appear this year as he continues his recovery, while defender Bernardo Schappo is doubtful after missing the previous match against Porto due to injury.
Otavio stepped in for Schappo and is likely to maintain his spot in the backline, partnering with Max Scholze, Stefan Lekovic, and veteran full-back Bruno Langa.
Moreirense probable starting XI:
Ferreira; Fabiano, Batista, Maracas, Travassos; Kind, Stjepanovic, Assis, Landerson; Alanzinho, Rodri
Estrela Amadora probable starting XI:
Ribeiro; Langa, Otavio, Lekovic, Scholze; Robinho, Jansson, Doue; Stoica, Pinho, Marcus
Moreirense has had a tough second half of the season, but they will be feeling confident heading into the match against Estrela, who have lost their last four matches. Nuno’s squad is unbeaten in their last four matches against Moreirense, yet they have yet to secure an away victory this year, which could pose challenges once again in Minho.
