Kocaelispor vs Istanbul – News and Probable Lineups

Kocaelispor and Istanbul Basaksehir will be looking to break their two-match winless spells as they clash at the Yildiz Entegre Kocaeli Stadium on Monday evening in the Turkish Super Lig.

The home team comes into the match after enduring two consecutive league losses, while the Grey Owls, aiming for European qualification, also experienced a slight dip in form with one defeat and one draw in their last two fixtures.

Match overview

Kocaelispor has lost 60% of their league matches in 2026, suffering six defeats in 10 games while managing just three victories and one draw, a significant decline from the team that concluded 2025 on a solid eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions, achieving five wins and three draws during that period.

The Gulf side managed only one win in four matches across all competitions last month, a narrow 1-0 victory over Eyupspor, which was then followed by a 2-1 home defeat against Konyaspor and a heavy 5-0 loss away to Alanyaspor just prior to the international break.

Despite the disappointment stemming from that heavy defeat, the overall outlook remains relatively positive, with Kocaelispor still positioned eighth in the league table, avoiding the relegation tussle, while a top-seven finish continues to be a feasible goal.

For a team that spent 16 years out of the top tier before finally achieving promotion last season, their current standing is a noteworthy accomplishment, especially given that many predicted they would struggle against relegation this season. They currently hold the title of the highest-ranked newly promoted team in the league.

However, they must turn around their recent decline starting with Monday’s match, and playing at home may offer some hope as the Kocaeli side has gathered 21 of their 33 league points in their home stadium.

Nonetheless, recent home performances have been concerning, with four losses in their last five league matches at the venue, including defeats in their last two home games.

For Basaksehir, this match also serves as a chance to avoid a third successive game without a win, having faced a 3-0 defeat to league leaders Galatasaray followed by a goalless draw with Antalyaspor just before the break.

Prior to that brief setback, Basaksehir had been one of the most in-form teams in the league – in the last 10 league matches, only the top four teams in the standings have garnered more points than their total of 21.

After a slow start to the season, the Istanbul club has steadily moved into serious contention for European qualification, with Nuri Sahin’s team currently sitting fifth in the table, nine points behind fourth-placed Besiktas.

They will enter this fixture confident, particularly given their strong historical performance in encounters against Kocaelispor, as Basaksehir has not lost to them since 2004, facing them eight times in competitive clashes since that year, winning five of those meetings, including a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Team News

Kocaelispor will be without the long-term injured Mateusz Wieteska, who is still recovering from a significant knee injury sustained earlier in the season.

Goalkeeper Aleksandar Jovanovic is also out due to a knee issue, and Croatian forward Bruno Petkovic is working his way back from a muscle injury.

On a positive note for the hosts, Show and Ahmet Oguz are both back after serving suspensions, whereas Mahamadou Susoho has made his comeback from injury in the last match.

Basaksehir may still be missing defender Christopher Operi, who has been sidelined for the last two matches due to injury and is uncertain for Monday’s match.

Festy Ebosele, who received a second yellow card in the defeat to Galatasaray and missed the following game as a result, is now available for selection again.

Uzbek international Eldor Shomurodov has been one of the standout players of the season, netting 16 league goals so far, making him Basaksehir’s top scorer and leaving him five goals shy of the league’s leading scorer, although he aims to break a five-match goal drought for the Grey Owls.

Kocaelispor probable starting XI:

Miller; Oguz, Dijksteel, Smolcic, Rivas; Keita, Show, Bingol; Churlinov, Agyei, Dursun

Istanbul Basaksehir probable starting XI:

Sengezer; Sahiner, Duarte, Opoku, Karatas; Kemen, Gunes; Sari, Shomurodov, Brnic; selke

Kocaelispor deserves significant recognition for their season, and their home form earlier in the campaign demonstrated their potential to be a formidable opponent.

Nevertheless, the undeniable quality of a Basaksehir side that has been performing exceptionally well over the past two months makes it challenging to favor the hosts here, making an away victory appear to be the most probable outcome.
