St Mirren vs Partick – News and Probable Lineups

On Sunday, St Mirren will host Partick Thistle at The SMISA Stadium for a quarter-final match in the Scottish FA Cup.

The home side progressed past Airdrieonians in the previous round, while the visitors moved on by defeating Elgin City in the fifth round.

Match overview

This season, St Mirren has faced significant obstacles, confirmed to finish in the lower half of the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 2021-22.

Stephen Robinson’s squad finds themselves in a relegation fight, currently sitting 10th in the league and only three points clear of 11th-placed Kilmarnock.

In 29 league matches, St Mirren has recorded five victories, nine draws, and 15 losses, including a dismal streak of four defeats and a draw in their last five games.

Despite their league woes, St Mirren has surprisingly excelled in cup competitions this season.

In December 2025, St Mirren remarkably secured the Scottish League Cup by defeating Celtic 3-1 in the final, marking their first trophy in 12 years.

The Saints are also still in contention for the Scottish FA Cup, having overcome Livingston and Airdrieonians in the two preceding rounds, and they are keen to maintain their cup ambitions against Partick Thistle.

Partick Thistle, currently competing in the Scottish Championship, is striving for a return to the top division for the first time since 2017-18, sitting second in the league table.

Under Mark Wilson’s guidance, the team has achieved 13 victories, 10 draws, and four defeats from 27 league fixtures, trailing leaders St Johnstone by five points.

In addition to their strong performance in the Scottish Championship, Partick Thistle has also reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish FA Cup.

They won against Forfar Athletic 2-0 in the third round, overcame Montrose 3-1 in the fourth round, and edged past Elgin City 3-2 in the fifth round, setting the stage for their Sunday encounter with St Mirren.

Partick Thistle aims to continue their current run of four wins and three draws in their last seven games in all competitions and seeks their first victory against St Mirren since July 2017, having lost their last two encounters.

Team News

For St Mirren, Malik Djiksteel and Jonah Ayunga are both sidelined due to injuries, and Scott Tanser may also be uncertain to play after sustaining a suspected injury during the previous match against Dundee United.

Declan John is expected to come in for Tanser on the left side, and other possible changes may see Jake Young and Richard King included in the starting XI.

Conversely, Partick Thistle has not played any matches since the end of last month, suggesting that Wilson might field a similar, well-rested team for this fixture.

Logan Chalmers is Partick Thistle’s leading goal scorer in the league with eight goals and could replace Robbie Crawford in midfield, while Ethan Ingram might also be in line for a start.

St Mirren probable starting XI:

George; King, Gogic, Freckleton; Richardson, O’Hara, Phillips, Baccus, John; Young, N’Lundulu

Partick Thistle probable starting XI:

Clarke; McBeth, Ashcroft, O’Reilly, Ingram, Smyth, Letsosa, Chalmers, Reading; Samuel, Watt

While St Mirren may be experiencing a difficult period, they have been formidable in cup competitions this season, and we anticipate the Scottish League Cup champions will continue their FA Cup journey with a victory on Sunday.
