Union Berlin xElversberg - prediction, team news, lineups

SV Elversberg, who have just been promoted, will aim to maintain their promising beginning to the Bundesliga season this Saturday, as they face Union Berlin at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

The away team is currently seventh on the table with seven points ahead of matchday five, while their rivals sit second from bottom at 17th place with merely one point, which they secured during the opening match against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Match overview

Union Berlin is eager to recover from their heavy 7-0 loss to Bayern Munich before the international break.

While many teams have suffered severe defeats against Bayern, Union has now let in 17 goals across their four Bundesliga encounters thus far.

It wasn’t until matchweek 10 of the 2025-26 season that Union conceded 17 goals in the league, raising concerns for fans, especially since they’ve only found the back of the net four times this season in top-flight football.

Another defeat for Mauro Lustrinelli’s side would mark their eighth loss in 12 Bundesliga matches, whereas a win would give them their third victory during that period.

Union has struggled at home, as they have failed to secure victories in six of their last seven games at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, with three of those resulting in defeat.

The start to Elversberg’s campaign has been nearly flawless, as they have already opened up a four-point gap above the relegation zone, with their goalless draw against Schalke 04 on September 20 being regarded as a positive result away from home against a team fighting relegation.

Manager Vincent Wagner will hope his team can provide more support to the defence, especially since their clean sheet against Schalke was their first in five matches during the 2026-27 season.

Though Schwarze und Weiss were held scoreless in that contest, they have still managed to score ten times this term.

The visitors will arrive at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei with a record of four wins, one draw, and just one loss from their last six matches.

Elversberg hasn’t faced defeat away from home yet this season, with two victories, including an impressive 4-3 win over Borussia Monchengladbach on September 5.

Team News

Union has only two injury issues, with defender Andrik Markgraf (knee) confirmed out, while center-back Stanley N’Soki is doubtful due to a calf problem.

Leopold Querfeld and Felix Uduokhai are expected to start in central defence, while Rani Khedira and Janik Haberer may feature in midfield.

On the other hand, Elversberg will be without defender Luis Seifert (ankle) and Tom Zimmerschied (match fitness), with the latter last appearing in August.

Lukas Pinckert and Maximilian Rohr are likely to anchor the back four, while Felix Keidel and Lukasz Poreba might provide shielding from the visitors’ double pivot.

David Mokwa is anticipated to play as the center-forward, potentially supported by wingers Lukas Petkov and Cole Campbell.

Union Berlin probable starting XI:

Ronnow; Juranovic, Querfeld, Uduokhai, Rothe; Jeong, Khedira, Haberer, Aebischer; Lath, Burcu

Elversberg probable starting XI:

Christopher; Gyamerah, Pinckert, Rohr, Gunther; Keidel, Poreba; Petkov, Darvich, Campbell; Mokwa

It is hard to overlook the hosts’ vulnerabilities at the back, although the visitors have also found it challenging to maintain a strong defensive line.

Elversberg is likely to be seen as the favorites, and their capability to pose a threat in the attacking third could see them secure a favorable result.
