Estonia x Luxembourg - prediction, team news, lineups

Estônia will aim to continue their unbeaten run in the 2026-27 Nations League C group on Saturday as they take on Luxemburgo at Lillekula Stadium.

The home side enters this fixture in third place with two points from their initial two matches during the international break, while Luxemburgo sits in second place with three points after a 3-0 defeat to Islândia on Tuesday.

Match overview

Estônia faced a scoreless draw with Bulgária on Tuesday, and they can have no complaints about the outcome as their only shot inside the penalty area occurred in the 57th minute.

It must be worrying for head coach Jurgen Henn that his team has only managed to score three goals in their last five fixtures, failing to score more than once in their previous six encounters.

The Blueshirts remain unbeaten in their last four games, having triumphed in two of those matches, while a win on the weekend would mark their fifth victory in eight outings.

The hosts have recorded three clean sheets throughout their undefeated period, successfully keeping their rivals at bay in their last two home matches.

Nonetheless, Estônia did not win in their preceding six home appearances, suffering four losses and drawing twice.

Luxemburgo was convincingly defeated by Islândia, managing only a single shot on target, while their opponents took multiple attempts from close range.

Their defensive vulnerabilities were somewhat unexpected given that they had previously kept three clean sheets in their last five games, conceding just two goals.

The visitors secured victories in four of those five matches, though two of those wins were against 161st-ranked Malta.

A win for Jeff Strasser’s team on Saturday would mark their first ever victory over Estônia, who has claimed two wins from their three previous meetings.

Die Roten Lowen have triumphed in each of their last three away fixtures, most recently defeating Bulgária 2-1 on September 26 in their opening match of the 2026-27 Nations League.

Team News

Estônia wing-back Robi Saarma had to exit the match against Bulgária due to injury, and his absence could lead to Frank Liivak taking his place on the right flank.

Liivak may be required to provide support to a back three comprised of Maksim Paskotsi, Erko Tougjas, and Karol Mets.

Markus Poom is expected to anchor the midfield, while Karel Mustmaa and Patrik Kristal are likely to play together in attack.

Luxemburgo will be counting on centre-backs Enes Mahmutovic and Dirk Carlson to regain their defensive strength, although the duo will require assistance from defensive midfielder Mathias Olesen.

In the attacking line, it would not be surprising to see striker Aiman Dardari supported by Vincent Thill and Hamza Kadamani.

Estônia probable starting XI:

Hay; Paskotsi, Tougjas, Mets; Liivak, Soomets, Poom, Kait, Schjonning-Larsen; Black country, Kristal

Luxemburgo probable starting XI:

Life; Jans, Mahmutovic, Carlson, Bohnert; Moreira, Olesen, Barreiro; Thill, Dardari, Kadamani

Saturday’s encounter is unlikely to be one for the history books, especially considering that both teams have demonstrated solid defensive performances over the recent weeks and months.

Perhaps Estônia and Luxemburgo will end up sharing the points, as the visitors’ impressive away form may be neutralized by the hosts’ determined defense.
