Girona vs Mallorca – News and Probable Lineups

On Friday night, two teams engaged in a relegation struggle during the late stages of the 2025-26 La Liga season will clash, with Girona hosting Mallorca.

Presently, Girona sits in 15th place on the La Liga leaderboard, four points clear of the relegation zone, whereas Mallorca occupies 17th position, just one point above 18th-placed Sevilla.

Match overview

Girona has managed to secure only one point from their last three La Liga fixtures, and this troubling performance has brought them perilously close to the relegation zone, putting their status in the division for the 2026-27 season at risk as the end of the campaign approaches.

The Catalan outfit has suffered defeats in their last two matches against Real Betis and Valencia, causing them to fall into 15th position in the league.

With only four points separating them from the relegation zone, a loss against a rival battling to avoid relegation this Friday could leave Girona in a precarious situation.

In their final four league matches of the season, the White and Reds will encounter Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, and Elche, making their last game of the campaign potentially significant, given that Elche is also struggling to avoid relegation at this point.

Historically, Girona has faced Mallorca 21 times, securing seven victories while losing nine, with the remaining five matches ending in draws.

Mallorca has lost their previous two encounters with Girona, including a 2-1 setback in the earlier match this season; however, they have achieved three victories in their last five games.

The Pirates will come into this fixture following a 2-1 loss to Alaves, which was disappointing after they gained seven points from their three prior matches to bolster their survival attempt.

Currently, Martin Demichelis’ side stands in 17th place in the La Liga standings, just one point above the relegation zone and a mere two points ahead of 19th-placed Levante.

This season, Mallorca boasts the seventh-best home record in the division, but their away form is the worst, having garnered only six points from 16 matches, raising concerns heading into this match.

The Pirates will face Villarreal, Getafe, Levante, and Real Oviedo in their last four league fixtures, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the relegation fight.

Team News

Girona will miss Alex Moreno due to suspension, having accumulated a yellow card in their last match against Valencia.

Additionally, Donny van de Beek, Abel Ruiz, Vladyslav Vanat, Juan Carlos, and Portu will not be available for Friday’s match owing to injuries.

Alejandro Franças is anticipated to step into the starting lineup in Moreno’s position, and there may also be a spot for Thomas Lemar in the side.

For Mallorca, Lucas Bergstrom will remain unavailable because of injury, while Antonio Raillo, Jan Salas, Marash Kumbulla, Mateo Joseph, and Zito Luvumbo need to undergo assessments.

There were no new injury concerns following their match against Alaves, but a change in midfield could occur, with Manu Morlanes likely replacing Pablo Torre.

Vedat Muriqi has had an exceptional season, scoring 21 goals in Spain’s top league, and he is expected to play an important role in the attacking third.

Girona probable starting XI:

Gazzaniga; Martinez, Reis, Blind, Franças; Martin, Witsel; Tsygankov, Lemar, Ounahi; Echeverri

Mallorca probable starting XI:

Novel; Maffeo, Lopez, Valgent, Mojica; Costa, Mascarell, Darder; Morlanes; Muriqi, Virgil

Mallorca’s away performances this season have been notably subpar, making it quite challenging to back the Pirates for a victory this Friday; however, a draw could very well be within reach for the visitors.
